Just how long does a parcel sit in customs normally? My parcel arived at Heathrow airport in the very early hours of the 3rd Jan, it was then taken into customs a few days later and as yet it still sitting there. Im assuming they will send a letter to me but they have had it a week so far. Bet if it was something illegal it would have went straight through be now.:shrug:arrrgghhhhh.

Not sure if that helps

I've had stuff sit for a week and more, purely because of the heavy volume of stuff they have to process, then of course you've got the weather causing a bottleneck and preventing stuff getting moved further down the delivery chain.

If it's any consolation I've been waiting for over a week for a parcel to be shipped up from down south, due to no more than the snow.

Im assuming they wont release the parcel to the couriers until i have payed the duty or do they release the parcel and i pay through parcelforce?

Parcelforce won't release the parcel to their drivers until the fees are paid.

DHL do it whereby the package is delivered promptly , but a week later, a customs bill arrives on your doorstep

Thanks. I do a track about 2 or 3 times a day. What i wanted to know was --would customs release the parcel for it to head up to Scotland with Parcelforce before i pay the bill.I know Parcelforce wont release to me until i have paid.:naughty:

Yes, I usually go over to the depot, pay the VAT and duty and collect my orders

had a package that came in from the states, no notification or anything. I had a USPS tracking number that said it had left the US, the same number I was able to use on the parcelforce international site, to find that it was sat in the depot up the road, the trackiing stated attempted delivery - card left ! No card here, or with a neighbour, it was obviously ballhooks anyway as I hadn't paid any duties or had a letter about it.

Went up there and they were really unhelpful and were not happy I didn't have a card (despite having the tracking number and 3 forms of ID), kind of difficult to have a card when they haven't dropped one (or sent a letter for duties). Eventually they "found" the parcel, I paid the dues and off I went.

Complained via the website, the complaints seem to be dealt with locally, got a very arrogant reply telling me "we do a good job and Im tired of people trashing us" and basically accused me of lying about the card.

Anyway, when it does clear it may be worth contacting local depot, rather than wait for a letter etc for duties..

Last time I had an overseas delivery held by ParcelForce I had to pay Vat + Duty + £8 admin fee.....

The Vat + Duty was only £1.28 :bang:

I sympathise. I also think I'd feel a letter (snail mail) to the MD or CEO coming on too :)

If you do want to complain always go to the top! Don't b****r about with customer services and so on, they're just professional "putter offers"

cheers
