Custom function help, please

Oh boy. I've been trying to set my 1DMkIII up for back button focussing. And failing. I've tried various custom functions as advised in various bits and pieces I've come across. None of them seem to be working. Where am I going wrong? It still auto focusses on the shutter button.

I haven't got my Mk III with me at the moment Carol (lent it to a mate) but I think it's the same settings as the MkIV.
Custom Fnc.IV in the menu Operation Others, 1.Shutter button/AF-ON button
then set on No.2: Metering Start/Meter + AF start.
