Many of you will remember that when my old 14 year old GSD died, the old fella next door had just got a black Lab pup. He then was hospitalised for a few weeks and little Blu moved in here.

Since his homecoming we have shared custody pretty equally of the nutty pooch.

Sadly yesterday, completely out of nowhere, she collapsed and died :(

Apparently there was an undiagnosed heart defect which was, in effect, a ticking time bomb, and probably accounted for her small stature for the breed.

Anyway....sleep easy fur-face.
You will be missed.

Sorry to hear that Ruth, how old was she ?
Lost my old GSD to heart failure, but he was 13

Sorry to hear that Ruth.
Its never easy when a pet
(or even a shared pet) goes to that great street full of lamp posts in the sky.

Blu was not yet 2 years old.

No age, poor girl not even properly grown up :(

That's a great shame. Being a Lab owner myself I can understand what you're going through.

Sad time, at least she went quickly thoigh :(

Thank you everyone.

:(

Naff picture, but this is the expression she wore for the majority of her little life!

Dry those eyes, big man.
Do what I'm doing this evening......Alcohol.

Nah, stopped that lark years ago. Dunno what I'd do without me wee doggie tho. It'll be a heartbreaker when she goes. An good few years left yet hopefully, she's only six.

Just a babby. What breed? (or a bitsa?)

We've got a 2 yr old beagle as part of our family. I work from home so we are together pretty much 24/7. I don't know what I'll do when his time comes. Luckily they live to about 15 so have a fair amount of time left.

Oh Beagles are ace. Not too big...not too small. The nosiest dog I ever met was a Beagle
They always seem to have a daft grin too!

I wondered why all staff leave had been cancelled this evening :D

The only one I ever "met" was ace at whipping stuff out the (Floor level) Oven too :D

Oh gorgeous!

And as Borders are 2/3 nutter, he/she is in fine company!! ;)

I'm loving this.
Come on guys, show me your pooches!

best most intelligent dog in the world, IMO.

Bit like her owner then:)

She's the third pure bred Border Collie I've had in the last 30 years, all bitches and all just the most intelligent, even tempered, friendly dogs you could imagine. I love em.

I spent time living on a farm as a kid, and I remember one working collie who was like 2 different dogs.
100% business when working, and daft as a brush with us kids.

I agree 100%, when I was a teenager we had a border collie, his name was patch, fantastic dog. His party trick was he would go out of our garden, (over the fence!) go round to our neighbours, lift the letterbox with his nose a couple of times until they answered, get one bourbon cream come back and bury it in his bed till later on that day !!!! nobody taught him that, they are just so clever and adaptable.

Well they say that dogs grow to look like their owners,
(or is that the other way around?)

So now we know what you look like.
Sticking up ears sticking out tongue and Orange eyes.
:D

You'll never know what I look like, until it's too late.

Gorgeous pooches.
Keep em coming :-)

Awwww - really sorry to hear about Blu, Ruth
Especially so soon after you lost your own dog.

It's nice to see some of the members' dogs in this thread though - I'll post up some of mine when I'm next on a 'proper' computer.

p.s. While I'm at it I'll also see whether I can find a NSFST4 (not safe for ST4) sign to put on the door of this thread ;)
