Yes
It's finally clicked... For years I've been using the brightness/saturation tool without really understanding what it did, what I wanted and how to get it, so I decided to get it over and done with and hit the books on how to use curves.

Well I finally got it today... It really is a fantastic tool!

I would urge all beginners to photoshop out there to just take an hour to read tutorials on curves as the results can be dramatic (even though it can be a little painful at first!)

It's nice when you overcome a hurdle isn't it? :)

yes.........

thought I had produced my best ever pic............ until I played with "curves"

Yes actually, Photoshop CS4 for Photographers. It's a big read and you'll find yourself taking notes furiously as you realise how much you can do with PS! It includes tutorials on almost everything to be honest but if you want something just for curves I'd have a look on google/youtube as I'm sure there's loads of free material out there.

Just bought that book from another member on here. Happy days :)

Good stuff Dave. Would you be able to provide a brief introduction on what curves are and how to use them creatively and effectively. Would be an awesome help to many users on here

Have a look at Ron Bigelow's site, there are lots of good articles.

If you are new to Curves and Levels I would suggest that you read the Levels articles first and then move on to the Curves articles. Although he uses Photoshop you can apply the ideas to other programs.

Thanks for the link Suvv. Lots of great tutorials on there. I've just spent a few hours going through some of the tutorials with some of my pics and I can already see a great improvement.

Nice one. I'm still experimenting with Photoshop and hand a quick play.

Amazed with the changed I could make with a few clicks...:D

I only have elements 2 and I cant find curves on it at all. Oh well never mind. I've been reading the Bigelows tutorials and they are very helpful. At least I have learned about USM.

Mmm . . . I think curves was introduced to Elements 5 or 6 ????

You can gets Elements v.7 for around £21 inc., from Amazon. Although listed as 'used' they are new with code no. Great value and a major advance on E.2, however it does depend on your computer??????

Wow, thanks for the head up Suvv - that is one great site. Amazing how some people are motivated to spend vast amounts of hours writing such great tutorials for free!
