For those of you that want to buy a camera from a high street retailer so that you have peace of mind if it breaks. Think again.

Bought my daughter a little P&S from Curry's. She brought it back from Spain with "Lens Error" on the back LCD and funny noises when you turn it on.

I went to the Curry's I bought it at, and was told I had to ring a number (The (PC World) Tech Guys). They would send me out a pouch to return it.

So I rang the customer line this morning, staggered through their multi-optioned switchboard and finally arrived at a ring tone.

Which went to an answering machine

So far, no response, and I'm not overly hopeful.

I'll keep the thread updated, but so far, I might as well have bought it from Amazon or another online retailer.

Big thumbs down from me.

Ian.

I would much rather buy from online stoers then curry's or comet type stores.

Had so many problems when i bought a macbook from comet as they lost the install discs and said they couldn't get hem even after ringing apple, went home and rang apple and said they would send them out for free.

Another thing worth trying is the sales of good act on them, the people in store wont have a clue about the law so ask to talk to their manager n if still nothing ring their HQ.

Works a treat ;)

Yes you have a contract with the store / company that sold the item to you they are obliged to reasonably repair or replace it is they that have to deal with any intermediaries or the manufacturer, take it back and insist.

I had a good experience with Currys a year or so ago. My PC died a couple of times and went to the tech guys. In the end they had if for over 28 days in total, and I left Currys with a new PC, that was quite an upgrade for no extra cost. I was really pleased with the service.
