How many people knew that Curry's was a sister shop to PC world:shrug:

I didn't until today when I went in to buy my Lap top and curry's had not got one, stopped stocking it and told me to go to sister shop PC world as they would price match anything, but they had not got one either:shake:

And add Dixons in there too. They can access each others stock lists and prices and automatically match them!

Just checked Dixons also out of stock

Pixmania, the online retailer that pretends to be in the UK, but is actually based in France, is also part of DSG....

I only use these stores as viewing rooms. You can get almost everything cheaper in different online stores. Sad, buy true..

Its now actually Dixonsgroup and I work for PC World.

The stuff we sell isnt too bad we just dont sell enough accessories in my old store we sold DSLRs but no lenses, cards, flashes etc so was pointless.

We own Currys, PC World, Dixons, Pixmania, and lots of europe stores. (I think there may be another UK one which ive forgotton)

Can you find out for me then why you are not stocking the Dell Inspiron 1750 any more  yet dell are still selling it at £100 + more

Yeah its actually quite ironic isn't it, they are all situated next to each other, they all win because if you don't buy from one, you'll probably buy from the other. They've had it sussed for years Lol, quite cheeky, but i can appreciate the business strategy.

Kinda like Game and Game Station, my last day working at Game I actually ended up covering a staff shortage at Game Station

I once went in to PC World and found something - can't remember what - for £30 and it was £20 next door in Curry's.

While we're on who owns who - Dabs has been owned by BT [BT Shop]for a while now and their web sites share the same style.

Try 'Staples' . . . I bought a Kodak printer the other day, heels dug in against 'on line price match' at PC World and Comet. Tried Staples next door, they could not have been more helpful, excellent, friendly service, I got a great deal;)

From now on, PC'W, Currys and Comet are nothing more than 'look see, hands on', I will be going for the 'competition deal', where ever it be.

CJS

Ps, dont know about websites the same, seems to me, shop furniture and lay out is to close to be a coincidence in Currys, PC World and Comet????

Most of Currys and PC World stores are being combined into fantastic new look layout stores.

If you have an issue with a store or customer service there is an email that you can contact that goes to one of the directors as they are trying there hardest to make EVERYONE happy. I'll try and get hold of the email.

Dell 1750 hasnt been stocked for a while, must be something that Dell have stopped us from ranging. Not sure why but I will feed it back for you.

Matt - not being funny but sometimes the sales staff try a little too hard. I went in there a few days ago and kept being bombarded with sales people eager to "help". Are the guys on the shopfloor rewarded with bonuses based on sales?

No we are to make sure that customers are happy though as part of our training we are to approach every customer and greet them. Unfortunately its just part of the job. I totally understand where you are coming from as I personally prefer to be left alone when shopping but research says the more people are approached the more people purchase something.

I am a warehouse boy though but still smile and say hello as I walk past people and make sure that they are being seen too or are happy browsing.

I work in Currys and at times it's hard. I appreciate that sometimes somebody can be asked if they need any help more than once but surely its better than not being asked at all. In some of the huge stores its obviously quite hard for sales staff to keep tabs on who has been asked and who hasn't

If I am approached in a shop then I am afraid its puts me off buying, :nono: and anyway in PC world you can hardly find anyone to help you when you want someone, if you intend to buy:shrug:

Just a polite "hello" would suffice to show that they have been noticed but not to "pounce" on them as soon as they walk in the door.:nono:

Surely it's better to bloody well leave us alone and understand the fact that if we want help we can ask !! :bang:

To be honest the staff are trained to say something along the lines of "hi guys, what brings you into store today?", it's not exactly the hard sell and if you come into the store to look at something in particular we can direct you, if not just say "just having a look round thanks".

I work in a fairly small digital store, not many nooks and crannys but I've asked a customer if they'd found what they were looking for and they've said "laptops but you dont seem to have any" - we have around 10 metres of them! That led to them being very happy and getting a great deal on a new lappy

You'd be surprised how many people dont ask when they really want to. My girlfriend is the same, she's often to intimidated to ask for something. Personally I'm not one for browsing so when I enter a store of any kind, I like a sales person to approach me so I can tell them what I'm looking for

The smaller stores it isn't as much an issue but the larger stores on retail parks finding someone to assist is usually the problem. It does annoy the hell out of me when someone asks you as you walk through the door can I help you, More often than not if that happens I will turn round and walk out or ask for the customer toilets. But you will be walking to the TV's at the back of the store and get asked by the staff in the computers section, the guy in the cookers section and the guy selling washing machines if they can help you. I usually go back to them after failing to find the person in the TV's bit and ask them to sell me a tv they then say that I need to speak to the guy from TV's I then walk out.

I was in a US Best Buy store last year. In 20 minutes I had 11 sales people attack me. I came close to getting myself banned. You can perhaps see why it's a sensitive subject for me.

That can't be right, all I've heard from people is how amazing Best Buy are going to be and how screwed Currys are :D

I completely understand being swamped can be annoying. Dixons Retail are trying their best for colleagues to ask a simple question at the front door to differentiate between browsers that don't want to be bothered and buyers that may need a hand. It's really down to the quality of the sales floor manager as to how well this is achieved

There's a fine line between pestering customers and ignoring them, in general I'd say PCW and Currys have it spot-on.

It's far worse when you get a saleman that shadows your every move round the store bombarding you with inane questions. I've actually gone into shops before, cash-in-hand, to make a large purchase and walked out because the salesman kept offering his advice, even after I've made it clear I know what I want to buy and just need him to process the transaction....

Briony, you may have already had a look at this place that have the laptop you are after. It is a refurb from Dell.

Thank you but my original budget was £400 inc or ex vat looks like I may have to wait and save a bit more to get what I want.

What can't be right????

Sorry, was being sarcastic, all we've heard recently is how amazing Best Buy are going to be and how its the end of the world for the rest of the electronic retailers

Yeah, theyre making a lot of stores Currys Pc World stores, even with a new logo :D They did it a few years back with Dixons, we had no online presence and were forking out for tv and press advertising for Dizons, Currys and PC world - made sense to join Dixons and Currys. Now looks like they're doing the same again, as many people have said 99% of what you see advertised in PC World you can get the same deal in Currys and vice versa. Add to that that stores are right next to each other and would often compete on price it's common sense to join them.

Anyone in the North take a look at either the new Chester megastore or Aintree and anyone in the midlands take a look at the Birmingham J9 store - they look amazing :D

I've just bought a couple of TVs from Currys in Blackpool. The salesman was excellent, he really knew his stuff and wasn't at all pushy. Not at all what I was expecting to be honest and a very pleasant surprise.
