Evening all,

This afternoon I splashed out and upgraded from my 300D dinosaur to a gorgeous new 600D complete with 2 lenses and kit bag bundle, from Currys.
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/digital-slr-cameras/canon-eos-600d-digital-slr-camera-with-18-55-mm-75-300-mm-dc-iii-lenses-deluxe-gadget-bag-21426646-pdt.html

If you click on the details for the camera and lens kit http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/digital-slr-cameras/canon-eos-600d-digital-slr-camera-with-18-55-mm-75-300-mm-dc-iii-lenses-21342721-pdt.html it clearly states it comes with the 18-55mm IS lens, although now I've got it home and fired a couple of shots off it definitely isn't the image stabilized lens. Now as far as i'm concerned the item isn't as described, and although I love the camera I would really like the lens I was promised in the description.

How can I go about putting this right?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

It would help if the link worked so we can see how what you bought was described.

Your linking to 2 different kits

From what you say you bought the stuff from the first link?

I can't see where it says IS on either link, but the photos show an IS 18-55mm

It doesn't, even your link says "600d-digital-slr-camera-with-18-55-mm-75-300-mm-dc-iii-lenses".

The 18-55mm DC III lens is not IS.

The description on the web page at Currys describes the setup

CANON EOS 600D Digital SLR Camera with 18-55 mm & 75-300 mm DC III Lenses

Enjoy great versatility right out of the box using the all-purpose 18-55 mm and 75-300 mm lens kit that accompanies this first-class SLR. Capture amazing images of epic scenery, shoot the perfect portrait or get creative with these excellent all-round lenses. Enjoy endless creativity with these telephoto lenses; achieve gorgeous background focus, stunning close-ups and mind-blowing long shots.

A minimum aperture of f/3.5 ensures that loads of high-quality light is captured, faithfully and vividly rendering all your subjects in sharp focus and high detail.

It's a common package, Jessops did (do?) it as well. To cut the cost it's the non IS lenses included.

Is this your lens Paul?

Photos are very misleading showing the IS version

Reckon they will say keep the camera and lenses or return for refund

Worth a moan though and maybe mention trading standards or ASA

Description is clear that it is not the IS lens. The wrong picture could be a genuine mistake (but is misleading). I think your only realistic remedy is to return it or a refund on the basis that the item is not 'as described' - arguing that the picture forms part of the 'description'.

Apologies for confusing everyone in my original post, it was late!!!

The first link is for the bundle, i.e. with the free kit bag. While in this link you can click another link to both the camera+lens kit and the individual kit bag.
In the link to the camera+lens kit there is a spec list, and towards the bottom under the heading 'GENERAL' look at the accessories included...

Picture definitely forms part of the description - "a picture is worth a thousand words"

If you are unhappy, take it back.

The lens should have a switch on it to turn the IS on and off. If that isnt there then it is definitely not the IS version.

If you are not happy with it then take it back to Currys. Take print outs of the webpages with you. If they are not happy to exchange it for an IS lens then you should be able to get your money back (if you are not happy with the bundle if its not IS)

I'm happy with the camera, and I know that I.S. is only a nice to have - same optics and internals as tbe no -I.S. version. It'd just be nice if i had what I thought I was paying for, but at the end of the day its a good deal and I think I will struggle to find one as good.
I'll send currys an email to make them aware, but im gonna stick with the camera.
Thanks for all your advice
Paul

What does the receipt say? It usually tells you there.

Theyll probably say the first link (which you bought?) doesnt mention IS anywhere and the second link is a completely different package i.e. you get the bag or you get IS.

Good luck trying to take something back to Currys once youve opened it and used it, theyre an absolute nightmare.

I'm not taking it back, as I realise the IS is a nice-to-have. I've had the kit out today and taken some cracking photos, so so much better than my old 300D

Thanks for all the advice,

Paul

On the returns of their website...

If it is within 7 working days* from the day of delivery:

Following Distance Selling Regulations, we will accept items back even if you have opened the goods to inspect them

Having used the items it may show signs of use, in that case you probably don't have a leg to stand on as they would've told you to check the package and item description upon arrival and complained/returned it before actually using it.

Hi Paul

If you bought the package shown in your 1st link then the photo shows the IS model of 18-55 lens. When you scroll down under the photo and click on the link as to what you get in the package, then this brings up the camera kit, which again, shows the 18-55IS and on the right hand side, it says in the accessories included an 18-55 IS lens - which I presume is what you've seen.

I would take a screen shot of both and return to currys and request an exchange for the 18-55IS lens, it clearly shows in their photo the IS lens, but they state in the what is supplied is the IS lens, so they cannot say it was just a stock photo - get it back and exchanged...

Hope it works out okay...
