I have never been one ot rush to get the latest thing, mirrorless has never bothered me, I like the weight and size of DSLR, and know that the 5DMK3/4 are very capable. I have invsted in glass, but know that in the digital age camera bodies can offer a little more (unlike the old film cameras, which were just protective cases for the film negatives.

I am more of a photographer than videographer, but you nevr know when the film might come in.

I guess what I am asking is, is the 5dmk4 video caps inferior to the r5? I guess that is a yes??? And truly, with good glass, would I notice any difference in overall quality?

I went from a 5dMk3 to R5 at launch and haven't regretted it at all.

For me the electronic viewfinder is a godsend. It really is what you see is what you get and The ability to preview images in the viewfinder I find really useful, it's like having a monitor strapped to your eye. Especially if you're in low light, the ability to mock what the exposure WILL be when you take the shot makes framing and focusing in the dark a doddle!

I would upgrade now purely for that.

Other benefits I found are the increased dynamic range, focus peaking and the AF (if you need it) is mind blowing.

If I were going from a mk4 to the R5 I don't think I'd probably be quite so impressed, but the step up from the mk3 is very noticeable.

Oh and the flippy out screen is great!

There are a couple of things that annoy me.

The top digital ink/LCD isn't bright enough

I'd like more histogram options and more general options on customizing the display.

and more options for the built in intervalometer (Why can't I set it running in bulb mode to take say 200 , 51 second shots? )

We are waiting for the R5 Mk2, due out this year according to some rumours. Currently have a 5D Mk4 & an R6 and would take the R6 every day of the week for our weddings.
