Just been perusing for the sheer h**l of it and noticed that the asking price for the 5D2 body has recently shot up in the UK. Ok, there are still a few sites advertising lower, but the big boys, WEX etc. are now asking well over £1600. Does this say some thing about the possible release of the MkIII?

As Edster said it has been retailing for just a shade under £1500 for a while although the big boys as you say still look towards the higher end of £1600.

While the 5D3 is due before too long I would have thought that rebates on the 5D2 would be commonplace near it's release date to shift stocks of the current model. As the 1Dx is due out this spring, I'm expecting the 5D3 to be mooted around the summer for an autumn release. Pure guesswork you understand ;)

whats the benefits of the 5d to say the 7d? and is it worth the extra pricetag?

I'd say that it is.
I have the 5DII and 60D (same sensor as 7D) and I can tell which camera is which by zooming into 100% even though I share lenses between them.
The image quality of the 5DII is amazing.
If IQ is a significant differentiator in your purchasing decision, then sacrificing a few features and paying a little more is worth it.

Edited to add....
Also worth looking for used bargains.
I bought my replacement 5DII in the classifieds here on TP.
Low mileage, clean, performs perfectly and I paid significantly less than new.

well i will be doing weddigns and studio stuff aswell as filming. so image quality is additional benfit but i seem to find my 500d producing good images imo at present so i imagien either is an upgrade, the main thing im unsure of ins the crop sensor, will this affect my filming capabilities?

Really love my 5DII's and I paid over £2k for mine when they first came out. I wouldn't rush out and purchase a 5DIII as the 5DII is as near perfect as I need. I'd only buy the 5DIII if one of my 5DII's died.

The question I always ask with cameras is will the upgrade make me take better photographs or make more money? Usually the answer is no to both.

i will be doing the upgrade from mien due to the film side of thigns awell, so really need to grasp is will there be major differences between the two cameras 7d and 5dii on a film level and picture level

I always find pricerunner.co.uk to be useful in finding out the average price of something. Maybe have a look on there?

Hdew are doing it for £1380 with 3yr guarntee, it's a grey import but I beleive quite a few folks here have used them.

I'd be willing to bet a tenner that Park are knocking out white box models split from 24-70L kits - not that it makes much difference of course!

£1299 at the Focus show, from Jacobs...factory refurb.

I'm thinking of talking the plunge and buying the MKII, any thoughts if Canon will carry on making and selling the MKII for a while? Makes sense as they'd be a big gap [7D->MKIII] if the MKII wasn't around...
Ideally looking to get in the next 1-2 months

The Canon CPS rep at Focus told me yesterday that for the forseeable future, the 5d2 will continue alongside the new 5d3...

The gaffer at Jacobs told me exactly the same thing. No immediate plan to withdraw the 5D2.
