Got a 30D with:

Canon 100mm Macro
Canon 200mm L 2.8 Prime
Canon 50mm f1.8

Now i need a decent lens for landscapes and also a decent Kit lens for a couple of Gigs and helping with some wedding shots. I am thhnking of a Wide Angle, possibly 10-20mm Sigma or Canon EF-S with a 24-70L or similar at a later date.

The other option is getting a 17-40L f4 and leave it at that. I dont think that i want to go for a EF-S 18-55 ISf2.8 as i cant justify the price for what it is and also has dust problems and also wont fit on a full frame at a later date...

I cant decide, help :)

I have just bought the Sigma 10-20 two days ago so have had no chance to evaluate it yet.

I also have had the canon 17-40 for about a year now and am still amazed at how underated this bit of glass is. It does have an "L" for a reason ... :D

I guess it depends how wide you want to go, if 17mm is wide enough then that lens will keep for ages, FF or not.

Although I don't have one the Sigma 10-20 is a fantastic lens and although it's not FF compatible I am seriously considering it as my next purchase excellent value for money.

As you said you want it for landscapes you'll normally want the aperture quite small to get a good DoF so the fact the 17-40L is not a fast lens shouldn't be an issue. However, for weddings I think you would want something with a bit more top end to minimise distortions at low focal lengths and more speed to cope with both low light and minimising DoF to control backgrounds.

An that basis I think you would be better going for the first option of Sigma 10-20 and EF 24-70L f2.8

If you're looking to future-proof yourself then there's no point in looking at the 10-20mm - good as it is it won't go on a FF body sadly. At the moment your only option for a FF-friendly ultra-wide is the Sigma 12-24mm.
