Hey strangers. I'm Ash, or A.S.H if one goes by my initials. I'm a student, studying Scriptwriting for Film and TV at Bournemouth University.

I feel I already know everything there is to know about writing, and narratives...and now I'm keen to take things further and develop other skills - namely capturing the image...both still and moving. :D

I got into photography over the summer, and fell in love...self teaching from as many resources as I could muster. I feel there is always more to learn though.

Why do I love photography? It's the perfect way to engage with one's environment. There is no place beyond interest of exploring as long as you have a camera in your grubby little hands...and I sure do love exploring. :p By offering my services (for free, naturally :P) I've managed to be invited to see an operatic society in Portsmouth all the way to a Bulgarian orphanage. I just love to pack some sandwhiches, a couple of lithium batteries and my nikon - and off I go snapping along the way. ^_^

I've got some experience, but probably not as much as most peeps on here. I've done some production stills, journalistic photos, and a few for an interview ITN studios. So I think I have some potential...:S But to be honest, I'm bit of a newbie. I still use auto-mode a lot o_o, I rarely use a tripod, and most of my photos are by the book with the rule of 3rds. And I have to yet to take a good photo at night. Ha :P

The reason I'm here is for the community! To learn, critique and be critiqued, but above all - I hope to make some friends (and more so - allies!!) Photography is a lonely world, really, and making more friends who are photographic-mad would be fantastic...

So if you happen to be local, hit me up. (But don't actually hit me.)

welcome ash.... glad to have you on board.

Hello from a fellow student! Welcome to the forum :) Blimey, you sound like you've been busy! It's great that you've managed to get such good experiences just by putting yourself out there. Firstly...get out of using auto mode :P Although it probably occurs in some of my photos, I never actually think about using the rule of thirds, so don't worry too much about sticking to the 'rules' of photography as such :) just go out and experiment!
