Edit My Images
No
I'm a longtime amateur and i have used different software to edit my photo, Aperture Lr4.
Will he benefit me spending £650 on cs6 or is really for professional.
I just think after so many year learning photography is time to get more serious with post processing and cs6 seem to be the way but the cost is putting me off.
If i was a pro it will be different I'm sure.
Any advice welcome

You could always download a free trial, working with layers is a must for me but you can do that on PS elements and save a load of cash

Try elements, i(its a cut down version) it should be able to do most things you need and a lot cheaper.

A lot depends on what your doing, if your just making fairly basic ajustments then LR/Aperture will do the job nicely, if you find you need better selections or the need to add skies or swop bits of image around then you need either Elements or CS6 (or similar) Personally I could live without lightroom but I couldn't manage without photoshop, but lifes a whole lot quicker and easier with both.

Thanks for your reply, i think I'm going to download the 30 day trial and see how it goes.
I will get element to from costco as they have a good deal.

If you have never seen it before then look at some tutorials before you download it so you can get familiar with some of the basics, this should give you a good start on making the best use of your 30 day trial

it is downloading but will take 6 hour.
Going to follow your advice and find some tutorial before i activate it.
My local art school does an evening class based on photoshop and photo editing.
Its £400 for 12 weeks and start in september

It depends whether you learn better in a class situation or finding tutorials on the web and/or experimenting by yourself whether it will be worth it to you. I find it easier to work by myself (then can come here and ask questions if I get stuck) rather than in a class. There are usually at least three methods of doing anything in PS so you also have the fun of working out which works best for you

If you went on this course, then you may qualify for the Adobe Student/Teacher discount. At the moment that would make CS6 about £247, so effectively you would get a free Photoshop course for the full cost of Photoshop. ;)

September is a bit far off though, but if you find you like Photoshop after doing the trial, if there are any Adult Learning classes local to you, then a short Digital Imaging or Photography course after Easter may also let you qualify for the Adobe Student Discount, and would work out cheaper, and get the discount sooner.

And if you have any kids, then they may already qualify for the discount. :)

And if you don't have kids, but other family members do then .... ;) There may be someone pop in to say that is not right or legal, but that is up to the individual. I'm sure Adobe would rather people 'get' the Student version than obtain an illegal copy.

Adobe seem to be going to towards a monthly subscription model for their software, which is also an option, and has the benefit of always being up to date, and may get new features before the major release of the next full version.

I think the Subscription model has had an effect on the price of the price of the Student version of the program, as last year it was about £190, but has gone up to close to £250 to closer to the subscription price of £27.34 p/m, £328 p/y. I don't think that the cost of source code ;) has gone up that much in the last year to justify the price increase of the Student price.

After saying all that, Photoshop Elements is enough for most people. And a Lightroom / Elelments combo would be a cheaper option that would suit many. But then the Rawtherapee / Gimp combo is the free option. ;)

Depends what you want to do, and how much you want to spend.

Ad a 2 hour play around last night with cs6 and wow its another level after using aperture .
So much more to learn but also so much more help and video tutorial online.

Are there any good free online tutorials for this? I have watched one where I have learnt to change the background, move items around but is there anything else out there?
