Have no idea what if any free plug ins there is for photoshop that are worth having?

So recommend your favourite plugs ins, what you use it for.

Theres a millions free plug-ins, one of the better free ones would be Virtual photographer, I don't use it myself but it is good.

The ones I actually use sadly are not free ones, there are some good actions and scripts around though (free)

A good source of free actions is Deviant Art.

The great thing about them is that you can take a step backwards, see how the look is created and play around yourself and learn.
