hey all.

I've been given a copy of CS5 as a present to go along with my photography, and well, I don't have the foggiest clue how to use it...

Can anyone recommend any books I could get? I'm going on holiday soon, and fancy some poolside reading...

I know what Photoshop is capable of, but I just want to know about what's needed for photography rather than anything else...

Any recommendations?

Not a bad present. If you have any experience of previous versions of Photoshop then 90% of it is very similar in concept principles and layout. I had dummies guide to cs3 not sure if there's a cs5 but alternatively lots of online tutorials and the help function is good.

I don't think that the CS5 version is out yet, but Martin Evening's book PS for Photographers is pretty much the bible!

As mentioned a CS4 will do you fine, and then read some online articles for the differences.

Justs google Photoshop tutorials for photography - theres tons of info out there for free. Work you way through one by one picking up the skills as you go.

But I can't watch google from Tenerife :( plus, it was more of a geek book to read while not taking pics.

PS for Photographers CS5 by Martin Evening is available from Amazon.
Got mine delivered 2 days ago.

I've heard its a hard book to follow for a complete beginner?

Hi,

I have been using a website called www.lynda.com - more information on PS than you could ever imagine!
Tutvid is another good one and free or there's always the books by Lesa Snider - I have the CS4 copy and it's very good- but I prefer watching a demo to reading.

Good luck!

I've heard good things about Scott Kelby's 'The Adobe Photoshop CS5 Book for Digital Photographers', although having just had a look to see if it is available on Amazon UK, there have been a few printing problems. Although they may have been sorted.

Have you registered your CS5? When I did mine it gave me some options for a gift. I chose the lynda.com free trial and believe me it is fantastic. I'm currently working through the one-one series of it and trying to undo all my bad habits that I picked up. It will take you from booting the programme all the way through. I urge you to try it!! I'm in no way linked to them BTW....just a huge fan!!

at $25 per month it's a bit too steep for me

go to the library.........?

Andy, that's either going to get you a world of flaming or banned.

Delete it.

I think that'll do you just fine, CS5 just adds a few more features and an improvement here and there, not much different from CS4 tbh
