My favourite Photoshop book is Adobe Photoshop for Photographers, by Martin Evening.

I don't have the CS5 version, but the CS4 (and earlier versions) are very comprehensive. The book covers the basics of the Photoshop interface and tools etc. and then moves on to some quite advanced subjects.

If and when I get CS5, I'll get Martin Evening's book to go with it. I'll never be advanced enough to learn everything in the book, but it makes a great reference manual.

hi Les, I have the Photoshop CS4 book by Scott Kelby and if that's anything to go by, the one of his for CS5 should be a good read

FWIW, I went in to Waterstones and had a good look at the books on the Photoshop shelf (over a cup of coffee) to get a good idea of the different styles of book on offer before deciding to purchase

Hi Les
I was advised to buy Martin Evening or Scott Kelby for Elements. Went for the Scott Kelby one.Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi Les,

I bought CS5 for Dummies by Barbara Obermeier, then somebody told me about Scott Kelbys book. Having read other Scott Kelby books I bought that as well. In a nutshell, CS5 for Dummies tells you what everything is and what it's for, while Scott Kelby tells you how to use it so I've been using both books together. If your budget allows then I'd recommend buying both but if you can only manage one then I would go for the Scott Kelby. I find Scott Kelby's books extremely easy to read and understand.

Thank you guys- I have the Photoshop CS5 for Dummies by Peter Bauer, looks like I need the Scott Kelby book too- I'll have a look in Waterstones on Saturday

Cheers for the help
