CS4 wont open a copied CR2 file on my other laptop

I have 2 laptops, both with CS4 on (from the same installation disc)

When I copy a CR2 file from one laptop to the other, via an external drive or memory stick, CS4 on the second laptop does not open the CR2 file. The warning dialog box says its the wrong document type.

The wierd thing is, if I upload images directly from my card and then open them into CS4, there is no problem at all. It's only when I copy and paste CR2 files form one laptop to the other that I get the problem

Any ideas?

Have you tried Open As, as sometimes by default photoshop will try to open a PSD, giving that error

Ive just tried that, opening as a CR file, but another warning dialog box comes up "could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file" whatever that means :shrug:

Sounds like something corrupting it, have you tried to copy any other image files jpg or tiff to the laptop, try formatting the memory stick

You didn't say what OS you're using, in Windows you should use the "Eject Media" option that appears in the system tray. This will flush any cached data to the drive.

How ahve you got on, try zipping and emailing the file to your other lapppy, to be honest it sounds like a corrupt stick how old is it, format it

To be honest that is the last resort, to be hoest how can you say that without knowing details

only works for a in Windows NT/Windows 2000/Windows

Just do a normal format of your card, its nothing tp do with your operating windows, its a corrupt drive

I did say "in Windows" because I don't know how Apple Macs handle hot swappable media. CS4 has a minimum spec of Windows XP with SP2, so where does Windows NT/2000 come into this?

It could be that the drive is corrupted and needs a format, but what is causing the corruption?

im back home to the second laptop tonight, so will format the external drive and the stick then, and let you k ow how I get on
