I was just wondering how to achieve the soft focus look in cs4, as in you end up with that misty effect. I had no probs when I used PSP as there was filter built in. Is there an add-on which will let me achieve this or is there another way around, breathing on my lens and wiping the centre out is too much of a pain in the glass.

Filters-- Gaussian blur.... but there are almost unlimited ways to go about it.

one of which is to set a selection feathered to about 70 pixels, invert selection and blur that selection. You can apply how much you want.

Other way is to apply it to the whole pic uning layers and erase the bit you want sharp, just need to feather the selection on the eraser.

thanks guys

There are a few plug-ins that do a very nice job, such as...:

Kubota, a lovely, albeit pricey, set of actions with a very user friendly and fast to use 'dashboard'.

Otherwise look at Nik 'Color Efex Pro' (sic! :D), it has a nice 'Classic Soft Focus' effect. Check out 'Viveza' while you're on Nik, the most useful plug-in I've ever bought. They've got free trial versions too.

Thanks Flashman  I have not got around to playing with the other suggestions yet, and I will certainly check those of yours out. As mentioned I wanted that foggy look  not so much just a blurred image.
