Hey Guys,

I am shooting in RAW and large JPEG on 2 cameras and once I upload all the memory cards I want to put the files in date/time order and rename the RAW and JPEG files to match the new order.

How do I rename a RAW and JPEG file to the same name please?

I hope I have explained this well enough.

What naming convention do you want to use? I use Lightroom and take the EXIF shooting date and the numeric element of the file name. Does the jpg have the same root file name as the RAW? If so, then that would work for you.

Hello, I upload my images using bridge. I'm not sure about the root file?
 
Don't the jpg and raw file have the same filename when you import? On my pc when import both have the same filename but with different file extension I.e one is .jpg and the other is .cr2
 
I understand it but not sure I'm able to help as I use Lightroom :) You are importing a RAW & a JG of the same image and want them to remain the same names when importing.

Once you import though a batch rename would sort them in seconds. Do one each for the RAW images and the JPG images. I'd keep both in a separate folder (one named RAW and the other JPG). With the same number of images in each it should be quick and easy.
 
Surely the files are already in date/time order as they were shot chronologically?
 
First thing is make sure both cameras clocks are sync'd to the same time before shooting anything. :)


This is what I do,

Upload all files to a folder on the PC and open in Bridge.

Goto edit/ select all or press Ctrl + a,

Goto view/sort/ by date created.

Goto tools/ batch rename.

Job done.
