Nef images are not off your 5d, thats off a nikon, the canon ones will be CRW or CR2.

It's SD not 5D Wayne, as in the media card! :D

Aa Outlore mentioned you probably need to download the latest compatible version of Adobe RAW from their site.

Nope, but you need to check for compatibility as the latest releases wont work with CS4.

I just downloaded the link, however I still can't open my NEF files.

Has anybody got any ideas?

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended :)

Did you put the files in the right location? (Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs)

Tried opening the file from CS4 rather than just double clicking the NEF file?

Where did you put the 88bi file?

it should be here in windows.
Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats (remove the existing one first and keep it safe)

I made sure it was in the correct location: But when ever I click on the NEF file a box pops up and it keeps saying this: Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi

Do me a favor right click on the 88bi file go to the properties and then click on the version tab and tell me what it says.
And there is only the one plug-in there I'm assuming.

Went into the previous versions tab and it states:
There is no previous versions available

I'm getting a bit confused now. Did you put the new 88bi file in the folder I listed above and if you click on the properties what version is it?
I'm wondering if you have replaced the old 88bi file with the new one and if the new one is the right version for your version of PS.

The ACR download should install everything automagically for you. You don't need to put anything anywhere... Or am I missing something here?

The auto download update often doesn't wor properly, indeed it's only with CS5 that I have had it work properly.

Yes I saved it in the location you stated above.

It does state that it is 8bi rather than 88bi though!

This is some information from the properties section.

Name: camera raw 8bi
Type: 8bi file
size: 10.4MB

It also states the date it was created and modified was in 2008?

Sorry the 88bi bit is my mistake it should be an 8bi, did you click on the version tab? does it say 5.7?

what os are you on? mac or windows? This is what it should look like in xp but the version should still be there somewhere,

Do you have the window bottom left? if so versions also at the bottom of that.

Robyn, please open bridge, right click on a jpeg image and choose open in camera raw, if it opens can you tell me what it says top left (it should say camera raw5.7)

I don't normally use bridge... where abouts is the "open in camera raw" bit, I can't seem to find it. :bonk:

I have searched for updates in photoshop, however that final update won't download... keeps saying it has encountered a problem.....

The update that won't install is photoshop 11.0.2 update for photoshop CS4
