cs3 or creative cloud and lightroom

Hi all ive signed up to lightroom an photoshop via creative cloud for the £8 a month. But i already have cs3 on a laptop i own, is it worth the upgrade as im new to photoshop and am just starting to learn how to use it, or can cs3 do everything the other poackage gives me ???????

Why would you pay for software and not use it?

CS3 is ancient software. CS6 was the version before CC.

I can cancel it within 30 days, I have been trying to use since I signed up but work an kids dont give me much time. Ive always wanted to learn how to use photoshop thats why i signed up to cc

Photoshop CC and particularly Lightroom are worth putting the effort in to get the most from. There are plenty of useful online tutorials around, particularly on YouTube.

And to answer your original question, if CS 3 had everything that the current version has they wouldn't have created CS4, CS5, etc, etc.

CS3 is what about 8 year old now, more??? Not sure anyone would choose it over the newest version considering the differences if they have the option.

CS3 cannot do all that the CC Package can.
However, if you already own CS3 but have not learned how to use it, you might want to get to know how to use it with CS3 before you invest in CC, that way you can establish if you like/need it and if the investment of £8 a month is worth it to you

Thanks for the replys,Gramps that is the question I keep asking myself? is it worth staying signed up for a year for something i do want to learn but may get pushed to the side due to work an other commitments. Obviously im a newbie at this so will i benefit from having cc over CS3 is it more user friendly/better for me to learn on the latest rather than an out of date version??

In your situation I would learn on CS3 and when you feel comfortable that you can find your way around and master its features, then look at CC ... unless of course the cost is irrelevant to you

I disagree with Gramps. If you learn using CS3 you are likely to find that a lot of things you want to do are either much more difficult (as in more steps), or not possible. There are many new features between CS3 and CC. Additionally, as I mentioned before, the CC package includes Lightroom which will be very useful.

I have CC photo package and most of my processing is done in Lightroom. I very rarely venture into photoshop, but it's there if I need it.

I would do your learning on CC, it has a lot more features than CS3, such as content aware fill, better masking and selection tools to name a few that you will find frustrating in CS3

IMO the last useful tool they introduced was Content Aware Fill (Present in CS5). Since then there's been nothing I've seen in the newer releases worth paying more for.

Unless you are already committed to Photoshop and familiar with it I would cancel your subscription, and buy a standalone version of Lightroom v6. It is far more user friendly than PS and can do almost everything PS does (granted you would miss out on content-aware fill). Anything (almost) that you can't do in LR6 you can shift over to Photoshop CS3 anyway.

*Chews tongue about "Almost everything PS does"* - Depending on what you do with PS, that's either forgivably naive or blatantly incorrect.

If you can live with content aware fill, then CS3 and Standalone LR could work for you. I know I can't do without it, however, which is why I paid full whack for CS5 when it came out. The moths in my wallet still haven't forgiven me.

I'll rephrase that. Almost everything that a photographer needs to do can be done in Lightroom.

I would try and get a copy of CS6 - shame you didn't have old lightroom for the upgrade to LR6 price.
CC is ok but my work PC isn't connected to the internet

I think it comes down to your time available to learn PS and whether you want to pay for CC forever vs buying LR 6 standalone. Lightroom is much easier to learn than PS and with LR 6/CC, it's even easier to stay in LR and there may be less need to jump to PS, depending on what you want to do with your images. There is a reason why they are two different products and one cannot replace the other. As Denerec said, that Content Aware Fill in Photoshop is terrific and for me a must-have, along with other features. Another option might be LR 6 standalone + Photoshop Elements, which is much less expensive, more user friendly for beginners and you can jump to it from inside Lightroom just like Photoshop. To complicate things further though, there is speculation that LR6 may be the last standalone and in the future if you want the latest features you may have to go to CC at some point.

When you get CC there is a ton of Adobe training material. I am new to it and gently crossing over from Aperture over time.
