CS3 Action for watermarking

I'm trying to set up an action that wil place a watermark on my images. When I record the action, it doesn't seem to work when I play it.

I click to record a new action
drag the watermark onto the image
stop the recording.

Is this the wrong way to do it?

I go to File/Automate/Batch and then select the action option I want.

Sorry, I think I might be a bit ahead of you.

click record and then go through all the motions you did to make the watermark and then click stop and save it.

Which is what I did (as I said in my OP ) but it just isn't working. It seems to place the watermark ver very briefly.

Just to clarify, the watermark is an existing image which is dragged to the photo.

Sounds like a saving problem, are you doing them one at a time or a batch folder?

Just trying out on one at the moment. The idea was to get the action to work, then looking into batch processing

Just looked at the Action steps and it is just selecting the mages in turn. Could it be that you can record an action in which you're dragging one image onto another?

You can't just drag the image onto another.
If you are recording the watermark you will need to

Start Recording -> File, Open, Open Watermark Image File,
Then Drag onto your image
Stop Recording

Tried that. It opens the watermark fie but just selects previous document, it still won't place the watermark.

That's what I do.

That worked (once I realised you had to select the watermark first)! Cheers buddy.

Try using File - Place, no draging/copying required. Once accepted you can select all and use Layer - Align Layers to Selection - use as required.
