Crufts

Both are known to be particularly toxic to birds.
And the fact that its HIGHLY toxic to birds, makes me wonder if it was an attack on wildlife rather than a dog.

But as you said, its a "none UK" event, so I guess we will never know, apart from searching the various dog forums.

Yep I reckon it was an accidental poisoning, don't know what the endemic wildlife is in Belguim but I bet it was the target
as above I'll keep an eye out

Indeed.

It all seems to have gone very quiet about the other dogs that were "allegedly" poisoned too.
Rumour, speculation . . . a bit of band wagon jumping?

Exactly Sarah
From the KC press release Here

""We must stress that despite reports to the contrary which have caused a lot of concern to dog lovers, absolutely no dog has been shown to have been sick at or after Crufts due to poison ingested at the show, there are no veterinary reports or evidence to support this notion, and no official reports of poisoning have been made to the police."

I suppose granules could "leak out" of folded meat.
I don't know much about either TBH, but Aldicarb, the bible tells me, In humans, the onset of symptoms is rapid, < 15 minutes
LD50 = 0.5 mg/kg to 1.5 mg/kg when administered in a liquid or oil form. The toxicities of the dry granules are distinctly lower (LD50 = 7.0 mg/kg),
1000mg = 1g so a 30Kg dog, would only need to consume 1/4 of a gramme for its life to be in the balance.

Carbofuran is highly toxic to vertebrates with an oral LD50 19 mg/kg in dogs. again not even a gram to make the dog extremely sick, and its life in the balance.

Your knowledge is impressive, albeit slightly worrying. I've got a feeling you could kill anyone of us without us knowing it happened :p :)

Just so you know, I love you :) In nice way of course :)

I don't know many children that will eat raw meat so hopefully that won't happen, I am quite active on some dog forums so I'll keep an eye out

The risk is that a child just touches the bait or even touches a dog (or cat's) mouth after the pet has touched the bait. Kid's have a habit of putting their fingers in their mouths and these toxins would be very dangerous if that happened.

An 8 month old kitten died of Carbofuran poisoning in Midlothian recently. It was found alive by the owner, but soon died.

I've turned "killing stuff" into an art form over the years :D
Yep I'm surprised you are still alive, too, after posting the image on your web site :p

I love you too man Group

:D

Some poisons, and that inc. Aldicarb , can be absorbed through the skin, (Pores) So a small child could be at risk, just by touching it,
Athough the LD 50 would be a lot higher, but as you rightly said, fingers in mouths.
However of course, its a banned substance in the EU ;)

There was a rather efficient one for killing rats, until they took that one "off us" 1.5mg / Kg, or 1mg/Kg ingested, the rat was dead as soon as it touched it, but didn't know it.
As an aside
Cymag ( sodium cyanide) was great for killing rabbits, The antidote was amyl nitrite they took that away too,
The replacement, ( hydrogen phosphide ) safer to handle, and just as lethal, granted, and the cure? ...none known.
Some one please explain that logic!

Maybe they took Cymag away because they didn't want all the pest controllers "popping" the antedote to ehance their "grown up cuddles" adventures   ;)

Cymag ( sodium cyanide) was great for killing rabbits, The antidote was amyl nitrite they took that away too,

A fair few years ago in a possibly slightly murky past life, a friend of mine worked in a plating works where one of the chemicals used was one of the cyanides and the mate had developed a taste for the antidote. At a party in Weymouth, he realised that his little bottle was empty so in an attempt to procure a refill, he went to the local Tourist Information office and enquired as to the whereabouts of a sex shop. He was met with the reply "Well, sir, for all your normal requirements, Boots the chemist is on the high street." to which he replied "Madam, my needs are NOT normal!"
