my trusted iiyama 22inch has died -

I bought a iiyama 22inch tft hdmi jobby

quite frankly i no likey as it is nothing in comparison to its older sibling - ok it works

but it does not represent colours like the crt did to my printer (epson 4800 2 yr old) did in its 5 yr service with any epson printer.

both monitors profiled using eyeone - the crt was as near as i was concerned spot on

the tft is no where near - any slight adjustment of its angle and it changes ever so on the brightness

the q is - anybody any experience with other crt monitors and can you reccomend?

Presume you mean experience with other TFT monitors.
You cannot go wrong with Eizo if you can afford them. As for the rest - buyer beware!

I wonder if the CRT is simply too bright.

With the eye one check the illumination level. Ideally you should be around 120-140cd/m2

I have never seen a TFT represent colours as well as a good quality CRT and that includes my calibrated work monitors (Dell 21" + Dell 24" widescreen). If you dont mind the desk space and want image quality above anything I'd reccomend getting another CRT even if they are getting rarer to find.

I don't know what model you've got but what you're describing is a TN panel. Have a look for displays that use PVA or IP-S panels, the viewing angle is much more stable

TN panels are generally better for games (faster response) but other than that

When I got my Sony 19in around 3 years ago it was rated quite highly from a photography point of view by mags. Maybe the newer ones are still up there with the better ones.
