Cropping, rendering intent, resizing help please

Rendering intent is how the software deals with colours outside the gamut of the ink/paper combo

If you crop an image in half you loose half the pixels therefore you'll loose resolution if you print at the same dpi.

Is there any way to improve the image resolution for this example? Is this the interpolation part?

Increasing the pixel number is called 'up sampling', i.e. inventing pixels and the software makes a 'best guess'. Its not perfect. Small amounts work OK. There are programs that do it better than photoshop. However, your D7000 has 16mp, so I'd imagine that even cropped in half, 8mp is more than enough to print A4 without any problems.

Thanks, it is actually for help with my essay for city and guilds. Getting myself into a right pickle with all of the different terminology. This has shown that I really struggle with technical concepts! Sarah

Sarah, even the pros struggle with these concepts, don't stress over it. What is the topic of your essay?

Some things to consider might be color space, choice of paper, profiles for the computer for different types of paper, problems like bronzing. Also pros and cons of home inkjet printing and commercial photopaper printing.
