Hi all,

are there any rules to obey when cropping images?

cos i was thinking if i was to crop a photo, the photo would then be smaller than the original, so should i resize the cropped image to size of the original? or keep it at the cropped size?

any advice would be great, thanks

not sure what the nsfw is? but had to put that as a prefix to post the thread

No rules per se, but personally I crop at 4x6 mostly, for printing. But it's a good discipline regardless, as without it the number of cropping options is infinite and hours of your life get wasted, cropping and then cropping again then re-cropping.

Whys this NSFW? (Not safe for work) Dont quite understand? :cuckoo:

Anyway...

I would crop rather than resize, simply because your keeping the quality the same rather than stretching it out like Bumph said.

You didn't have to select HSFW you just dont select anything from that drop down menu !

My apologies...It seems the option for 'Must select prefix' was enabled for this forum for some reason

I've disabled it and edited your thread for you :)

thanks, i had never noticed it before but it forced it selection.

So presumably regarding cropping then that if i crop a photo, then that as a photo being or an non standard size is still adequate for print?

thanks

Sure, if you crop it at a non standard size you can still print it - but you will have an uneven border round your picture.

Yup, although I prefer to keep mine at the aspect ratio it came out of the camera, or perfectly square. Whenever I print anything I crop the image to the aspect ratio of the paper/frame.

Just ensure that you do not crop out the heart of the image, and in some cases keep some of the extra background to the image as it may create a more appealling thing to look at, if you know what i mean lol.

When you crop an image it doesnt reduce in size, it only adjusts to the original size but of what you have cropped. Hope you understand.

suppose that is what i was after knowing, or was trying to say in my original post,
