I dont want to sound daft but what do you do when you crop a picture? Is it really as simple as it sounds.

When i open a pic in cs5 is it really as simple as just using the cropping tool?
Or am i missing something. I dont get how you crop a picture and resize it whilst keeping all of the detail.

Also how do i go about sharpening my pictures using photoshop?
Is there any tutorials i can use?

Just trying to get to grips if ps cs5.

Any help would be appriciated.

Cropping loses pixels so you arent keeping the the same size - you end up with a smaller picture - just like cutting off part of a printed photo with scissors.

Sharpening takes a while to tune in to how much to use. Less is best and you simply cant make a blurry photo sharp! I find that settings of 100%, 1 -2px about as much as I need on large (ish) images. Eacch to their own though. Just watch out for leaving 'halos' around things when sharpening.

Have a look at Hackers high pass sharpening tutorial here :)

Thanks both, And thank you Grendel that was very helpful indeed :)
