Crop to fit A4 frame ?

How do you get around cropping the top section down but still maintaining A4 size ? i suspect it just pulls the sides in when you print and you lose side edge detail or i wouldn't mind making my own frame to suit if there is such a thing on the market ?
 
I suspect what you are describing is the fact that the standard DSLR format is slightly different to A4 The DSLR ratio is 1 x 1.5, whereas A4 is 1 x 1.4. Not much but it does make a difference. You can get round this by cropping a little top or bottom or both, to get the exact size. Most Photo editing software will let you set crop sizes or ratio's.

You could alternatively print with a "Fit to paper" option. This will put a small white border along two of the sides so that the full image is printed.

Custom frames, loads of people make them. Just Google ( or Yahoo ) Custom picture frames
 
If you are using PS just create a blank new A4 page 300dpi then copy and paste your photo into and move it around until your happy. Then if you got borderless printing it should work perfectly.
 
In photoshop I just set up the A4 cropping tool.
Then that allows you to get as big or small as you want.

Assuming the image is at 300ppi as well ;)

I personally use the crop tool in Photoshop and select/enter the size in inches and the ppi I require (usually 300 for prints from the lab)
