Beginner Critique please - is this too much?

I like Mickledore's attempt but this whole thread just shows what a hassle a terribly inconsidered background/angle can be.
A better starting photo, with thought to the background, height of camera, skyline etc ... would have been better in every way and taken hardly any work.

Completely agree, it's the no.1 lesson I've learned from this experience, don't know what I was thinking, I guess I just assumed I could do something with whatever came out of the camera! :(

Anyway, apologies for resurrecting my own thread but here's what I've ended up with :-

Not so much an edit as full on Photoshop madness!

There's a lot of PP for the blurred background, I know you said you used your 18-200 because it's wider but could you not have used your 35mm and moved back a bit? P.s. I like the final edit above, really fits in with the edit!

I will use the 35mm next time, one other problem with this image is it's obviously wide angle as you can see from the fact the front bumper angles outward even though it appears you're in front of the car. I guess that gave it a "dramatic" look initially but after all this faffing about it now looks a bit odd.

BTW, to show my complete noob-ness, I've only just discovered the wonders of layer masks and am afraid it's gone to my head somewhat :-

My step-son's cars over the course of his career, red car at the back, 2006 - 2010, purple car in the middle, 2017 (was forced into a wall by another driver and written off after only a handful of races) and the 2018 car in front.
