Criticism: How it should be given?

Loved that - and my wife said emperor's new clothes before I read her your post :)

I'm always reminded about that article whenever I see user photo critique(by staff togs) in mags.
I know what I like, I just don't always know why?

LOL. That's hilarious....

"Bonjour Henri, assuming you are French, or at least understand it".

and...

"Hi Irv, I don't know what you were thinking here dude! You got a pretty model (altho kind of old), but you have caught her with her eyes cloes in a not very good pose. Biggest problem is YOU NEED CROP to a vertical!!!!! Backdrop is too small and there is not enough of a sweep so you can see the crease. If you send me a file I can fix it in Photoshop and I can give you my suggested crop. If you don't care aboout your PROFESSIONALISM you are never going to get work as a pro believe me!!! Hope I am not being too harsh. Oh well best regards anyway, M.H."

Made for some interesting reading Ed, thanks for posting the like. It does remind me of some of the more un-educated crits sometime (but rarely) seen on here.

Love it, it made me laugh,

Sometimes honesty is not the best policy, I hope they all took the feedback as tongue in cheek and also took some of it on board.

Great post!

Thanks
Ellie

Haha, that's brilliant. Perhaps forum C&C should be banned; it's stifling creativity ;)

There is no 'bad photography'. There is no 'good photography'. There is just 'photography'.

Haha brilliant. It's incredible how people can present themselves as expert critics in photography, hiding behind their computer screens. Some people always see room for 'improvement' when in reality their words reek of obvious jealousy.

Probably more important to understand how crit should be taken rather than given.

Unless the comment is "take one more like this then I come round to kill you", just let it slide ;-)
