Creative Live online course - Zack Arias - FREE

Ahh, weddings, yeah, ttl is useful at weddings.

I still shoot mostly manual flash (or even auto thyristor!) at weddings though.

I'm learning weddings, I just saw soooo much potential for when its time critical, I mean those funky as bride/groom shots done with multiple poses and like 3 test shots 2 of cos I don't know the system that well

I have to laugh at some of the STUPID questions people are asking, since when did common sense go out of the window >.<... more to the point, why are they choosing to ask some of the questions!

Yeah, 500th on a leaf would take me back to the good old days.

thought so lol, I want sleep but I don't want to miss something lol

ditto

eyes are going

did work 9-5 and shot an event 6:30-9:30 (with an hours drive inbetween)

am ****ed :p

I stayed until 2:30, and gave up. It was rather inane questions from the audience after 1:30 or so. I missed the walk around the studio where they will be shooting tonight, apparently.

I thought it was worthwhile, but far too 'audience' questioning led and Zack responding, rather than a strict Zack agenda led presentation.

You telling me you're at university, studying engineering and can't do a simple time zone calculation?

Seattle is Pacific Time which is - 8 hours difference to the UK.

Friday June 11th – 1:30pm Seattle = 9:30pm UK Time.

Saturday June 12th :: 10am Seattle = 6:00pm UK Time.

Sunday June 13th :: 10am Seattle = 6:00pm UK Time.

Only time it's tricky is when the US and Europe change to/from Daylight Saving times on different dates.

BALLS I thought it was 9:30 again

lol.... haven't missed too much so far, lots of putting up a roll of paper and more basic lighting grey and white seamless.

think this might sell me some rolls of paper already, my vinyl sags a tiny bit, which makes grey a bitch to light nicely, and it just doesn't have the same matte finish that nice paper does - it's perfect for event work, or plain white seamless, less so for fashion stuff I'm deciding, been getting more and more annoyed with it over time.

Just made me think the space I'm moving to is not big enough lol... can never win!

What time do you think this is going on till? UK time? I think they went for lunch late, so maybe they are overrunning.

Started 30mins late so probably on till 2:30am ish

My laptop power cable set on fire around 11pm (like they do..) and so by midnight my tired old battery was dead. :(

Did I miss much?

I managed til 3. I bought this though. $79 is good value for the amount of training you get from this. First night was a bit boring after a while with some great points. I think if you buy the DL they trim it all up quickly as the rough of Friday is ready for me now, then edit it all properly and give you the final product. Great idea, as you can watch stuff you are not that into for nothing, something like this saves me buying One Light, which I can't afford.

What I did catch of yesterday looked good, and will hopefully catch some of tonights live too.

Some of the questions again where a bit inane to me, but to who asked them he probably helped them no end, so i can't moan. Some questions the answers also gave food for thought.

I think that's the reason I like Zack so much. He has not got the best of the best equipment, and he lets people know they don't need it. He is more attainable for a lot of people, more "One of us" rather than "One of them". This came through really well on the chat with Chase Jarvis.

The pointers I picked up yesterday regarding flash power settings were so clear compared to other presenters or books explaining the concepts and has given me the confidence to go and play.

Looking forward to watching the final day later tonight.

Trying to watch the third and final day of this, but my internet keeps dropping out every minute or so, incredibly frustrating. Just in case anyone has forgotten, it's on now.

Ian what did I miss so far this evening?

He spent a long, long time taking sample photos of a model using different types of light modifiers - everything from a shoot-through umbrella to a strip softbox with grid attachment. I'm not sure how much I missed at the start, but I get the impression that's all he's done so far. Made for interesting viewing, although it's nothing you can't pick up from 5 minutes on youtube. :)

Just coming back from the break now by the looks of things.

Well as I missed day 2 and in fact most of day 1, I just bought it so I can DL it later and watch when/if I can.
Day 1 from what I saw was billy basics, but hey we could all do with a reminder now and then, the images he has on his Blog from day 2 are superb so look forward to seeing it.

So like your like moving, like moving around, standing there but moving, look into the camera while moving, like not being still but like moving, yes I love that ok, I love that ok, keep moving like, not standing still, moving. yes like that....like...

Well, you couldn't say that his students are ... like ... the sharpest tools in the box.

My girlfriend was peeing herself as I was just shouting, take the f'ing picture and stop fasffing about!! Her camera didnt even half pressure focus! hehe

I really enjoyed this over the weekend (although I missed day 1 just caught the last 1.5 hours of the replay), especially day 3 (which I've managed to capture for posterity)!

Some good information included which could help a lot of members here, especially the use of one light only and how it effects the final result.

Thanks Ian
I missed the start but caught most of the rest.

Cheers

It was an interestiong 3 days. Day 1 was like what's an f-stop and how much kit do I need to buy and how much will it cost. Bsically he advised an AB1600 and 2xAB800s and brollys, stands and accessories, a backdrop holder and paper. A used 5D, a 50mm f1.8 and an 85 f1.8. That was about it! Back up camera if you're working. So day 1 done!

I bought Mark Cleghorn's traning and tbh I like his better!

Great that it was free..... Is the info worth $79? Not for me although I can appreciate the huge production.
