Morning all,

Hope everyone is well ... so I was actually replying to another thread and it started me thinking about captioning and usage ... Quite often a caption will read

<Team Y>'s <player X> <brief description> ie Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has a shot on goal.

A question however is how important the captions are in regards to future use - I assume they are only useful if the picture desk editors are actually searching for specific terms. For example if a player has an altercation with the crowd do you think the editors are simply searching for that player (and then looking closer for anything where they were interacting with the crowd) or would a caption as follows have more chance of being picked up?

<Team Y>'s <player X> argues with the crowd

Could work in many scenarios - it's why (and I'm sure everyone else) audio captions certain events in the game .. so afterwards you can remind yourself of different bits which may prove useful fillers in the weeks to follow.

Cheers,

Nige

I would have thought they would just search for Wayne Rooney personally, may add a goal or cele but not much else

I know where your comming from Nigel!,
I'm sure a wording in caption is relevant to certain news items!, I captioned an image " Mark Robins manager of Huddersfield looks to the skys after his team go 0-4 down to Bournmouth".
After the game he was "released" as manager & the image was published in a few papers!, Any stock image of Mark would have done from the larger agencies archives!, but I think the caption added to the relevant image & got it used IMHO!. Kind regards Graham.
