creating HDR in gimp 2.8

Hello all,

I'm really interested in creating a few HDR images, was wondering if anyone knew the best way to do it using GIMP 2.8? I have googled, however the results are a (pretty rubbish) tutorial from instructables.... and the rest seems to be how to cheat using one image. I am looking to merge 3 images of different exposures, to gain the HDR effect, any advice, pointers or links to tutorials would be greatly appreciated,

gimp is good for the 2nd round of processing but not for producing the HDR image. Photomatix is the sort of thing to use - it runs under wine if you're using Linux, or LuminanceHDR is okay.
