Thanks to some advice on here I've downloaded GIMP 2.8 - unfortunately I haven't a notion how to start using it!

I want to create a simple watermark, I've googled it and tried to follow a few online videos but I can't! :shrug:

Would anyone be kind enough to write down exactly how I can do this?
