After having some interfit lights for over a year and not using them I decided to get some background supports and a few backdrops. I've not really got the space to keep 3m wide rolls of vinyl stored so went for muslin.

Now the problem I'm having is how it looks. Its so creased it creates hard to remove shadows in my photos, especially the white backdrop.

Now is the trick to light it better or to get the background material looking better? If its lighting then any tips? I'm quite new to studio type lighting and am only using 2x interfit 150w lights. One with a white shoot through and one with a black/silver reflector.

I'd like to avoid having to iron 18 square meters of fabric

Apparently spraying it with water can help, using a small mister.. It will take about 20 minutes to dry out and should help with creases.

I think I read some where on this forum a few weeks ago someone uses either water or steam and then just leaves it to dry.

Simple solution is to open it out, then hang it in your bathroom with the shower on hot and running. Plenty of steam then. Assuming the bathroom is large enough? Realistically you don't need to open it out completely, maybe fold it in half or again and run the shower ...

I sprayed mine with a bit of water and that helped.

I have mine currently setup in the lounge and although its not super white, and is pretty creased, when lit properly - Its impossible to see, its just pure white. So I wouldnt worry about getting it perfect once you nail the lighting.

Would a wallpaper steamer be any good ??

I've just had a 6m X 3m backdrop pressed by a local firm. They just put it through a roller for me. Wouldn't even take payment for it!

Thanks for the tips. It will save me a black eye from asking mother to iron it.

I'll definitely try the steam method.

Hi I'm new hear , but I got a background and lighting studio for xmas with the muslin backdrop and I iroded them and wernt much better and when I folded them away they we're worse I I really didn't have the time to iron every time I used it! I evan tryed tumble dryer afet washing and then iron but not much better, the creases reallt spoilt my photos ....
I heard sum 1 say they irond ther sheet andpressed it and then rolled it on to a plastic pipe of sum sort, and slid the pipe on to the pole used for the backdrop so the muslin rolls owt and will b much better than folding ......
I got fed up of creased and got a white vinyl 2 m x3 meter which 2 meters isn't to b and just the rite size for what I use, so maybe try a 2 meter vinyl I got mine on ebay for about 40 pound, but the background looks much better in photos and brighter havnt used it on the floor yet as I have carpet so need some kind of bord to go under or over but bet the affect will b evan better,

Thanks Sarah. I've seen vinyl on ebay for around £40 so quite likely the same one. I may give it a go.
