Creaceed organizes an HDR Photo Contest

You only have to take a look at those "50 amazing hdr photos!!!" lists to see that I don't stand a chance against the crazy ass HDR pics out there :)

The irony is that one of the reasons I wrote my tutorial was to help people get better results than those. I tried Hydra once but never got around to really giving it a run for its money.

The sad thing is people seem to like the horrible maxed slider halo specials.

They really really do. You look at the big names in HDR and thats the style they go for. Most interesting HDR's on Flickr, same style. How I wish I had their popularity :)

OMG... these are exactly what I don't consider HDR to be...!! OK, HDR isn't to everyones tastes, but crikey, those 50 examples are absolutely awful! Pete's might be just a tad better... ;) hehehehe

It's just arty's vs purists... Always will be both sides and imo, there is a place for both sides....

If you scroll to below the hideous cars, there's a link with six pics to vanilladays ... at least they got something right

Possibly one of the best HDR creation guides, showing step by step how to get this amazing effect, very detailed.

Sure, but that is slightly misleading and may give readers the impression that Pete's images were created with this software, when they were not!

Pete - you might consider a need to address this.

Its not really. I manage to use HDR and create all sorts of things. Its not a this vs that clear cut matter.

Mine aren't with Hydra but then the article I linked to is simply about HDR. If theres a chance that people see those photos, use my guide and produce something good I'm willing to take it.

Pete, I know you do, and some of them are very good (some not so good), but they are equally as valid as the fake looking shots of the gansters, or the very shiny mini. Those pics are overdone because there is a market for overdone images.
They like to call it art, you like to call it the death of Photography. You're both coming from different angles and neither has any more right to claim dominance than the other. It's arty..... vs.... purist.

Eh? I never called it the death of photography at all. How can I be a purist when I edit all my photos and use HDR? I just don't go *as* far as they do thats all. I know theres a market, its kind of obvious I know because I said "How I wish I had their popularity." As I said its not a clear cut this vs that as I use the technology too. They just go further than I like to. I think you're reading words I'm not saying.

No, I'm not... I'm offering an opinion and you're attacking it, as you seem to love doing.
Argument over... :bang:

Thats because you're putting words into my mouth. I will argue with you when you do that.

I think a few people around here need to learn to read (yes neo, I mean you).

I've read this thread three times now, and I still can't see where there is any reason for Pete to head to the bar either pace.

pete lives near me, hence why its his shout.

fat chance guy will get me a pint !!

Where is a cheerleader when you need them !!

Ah, with you. Mine's a single malt, thanks ;)

As for cheerleaders, there will be loads on Sky Sports 3 in about an hour and a half

TBH, the only ones i like on that site, are the ones of the scooby rallying.

The rest lack... Colour. They've been 'greyed out' as in contrast has gone, and it's all the same colour.

The "you" I used was in reference to everyone who does not like overly tonemapped images, it wasn't directed at YOU specifically.

And here comes the petemc fan club bandwagon. Really, Pete is big enough to argue his own points.

You, meaning everyone but really meaning you, quoted me and kept saying "You're" and "You". I guess I could accept that you didn't specifically mean me, despite quoting me and you post seemed directed at me. But again, 3rd time, its not art vs purist at least its not for me and thats just my opinion.

Indeed, but its an open thread and if they want to post they can.

I'm not a member of that fan club as it goes, just hate people trying to pick arguments out of nothing.

I hardly think it was nothing, quite a longstanding and pivotal argument really... and it will rage on with or without us.

Fair enough... Since the alcohol is now wearing off and my fiery desire to show everyone why I'm always right and they're always wrong is leaving with it, I'll drop the subject.

However, I'm still right

O
http://stuckincustoms.com/ - He's basically the poster child for HDR. Mentioned in almost every HDR article. He goes to some amazing places with some great gear. He's got a huge influence over HDR trends with over 1 million views on his Flickr stream. Annoyingly his shots are often kinda soft with really odd white balance issues.

Wow, he has a lot of truly terrible shots on his blog. The landscapes in particular are largely dreadful. Some of the interior/detail shots work better, but I find it hard to believe he has a huge following.

Stuck in customs does have some damn impressive shots though. His recent Xmas one, New York, the fireworks stuff and Disney are all really very cool. Just some days its hit and miss. Unbelieveably large following though.

There in lies the whole crux of HDR I think. Some love it, some hate it. For me, all (and I mean all) of his shots are horrendously over done.

One man's meat etc. etc.

I suppose, yeah. It does seem that the evolution of HDR as it is known today in the digital world has been the real marmite of the photography world though.

I guess that may be true of colour photography when that was introduced too, but then I wasn't around for that! :D

Digital photography was frowned upon in the early days afaik. "Oh its not as good as film."
