Yes
LB and I were down at Wollaston Mini last week and were having a quick browse of the 2nd hand ones they got down there.

One caught my eye:

Mini One
51 plate (Jan 02)
Unpopular colour - silk green
Unpopular wheels - 'hole alloys'
Some options but not many

Now this car would have cost around £12k when new, now that is over 6 YEARS AGO!

Most other cars of that age/price would now be worth £3k-£4k.

Wollaston price: £7,790!

Link to car here.

I know they hold their value but that is crazy!

Yes I know it has only done 14k miles - but that isnt really so great now is it?

They do hold their price extremely well - not that I'm considering selling mine at any time in the foreseeable future.

They also tend to go for whatever someone is willing to pay, irrespective of what some guide may say. Rather like small Cotswold stone cottages just big enough for one person with no pets which go for silly money irrespective of what market trends and common sense says.

i like them minis too, there is one outside my house everyday, makes me gaze lovingly

I looked at a coopers s, had a go in a works one. That was fun!

In the end I picked up a suzuki swift sport. Looks like a modern version on the mini!

Suzuki Swift, a very cheeky copy of the Mini, but it has paid off for them.

Very true, but I have to say I never ever get out of it without a smile on my face. It`s got plenty of oomph for me and handles brilliantly!

suzuki swift looks a damnsite better than the bmw small car IMHO.

bmw small cars have always kept their value well, when they were first released people made a profit from the fact that demand was outstripping supply

True, I expect my suzi to depreciate like a stone! Oh well, I don`t care!

i really really want one, gonna wait until the abarthe S comes out and they hit the second hand market, such a faithful recreation of the original which i think is much better than BMW and beetle cashcows

The beetle is a battered Golf and the mini should be called the-regular-sized. It is a shame the new 500 abarth wont have the enigne hanging out of the back!

We bought a Honda Jazz in 2002 when they first came out for the price of a decent Mini at the time, £1100+ IIRC.
When it came to trading the boneshaker in for a better ride in a Civic 18 months later, I was shocked at how much equity we would have had, had we bought a Mini instead.

An italian friend of mine collects the originals, he owns a bodyshop - quite handy for these....

He`s got converible 500`s, abarths I don`t think there`s a version produced that he hasn`t got!

you dont like the jazz then, we have 3 in our family (well one arrives on saturday) and i think they;re great :) whereas we tried a civic at the time (back in 01) and we didnt like it.

we've just bought an '05 plate jazz for £5.5k which is a bargain, they seem to depreciate quite badly really which is great for the S\H market in them because you get alot of car for the money

OMG! £13k when ive spec'ed my fiat 500 :'( thats gonna be a dread for a while i think!

The Jazz is a great little car, lots of mpg, nippy, (we had the sport version) and the versatile seating is great, it's just that the first ones to come out had atrociously firm suspension which was cured in later models.
We made the mistake of test driving the car in Newcastle rather than the roads we have in the sticks in Northumberland.
If it were not for the fact that my better half does not like to change her car we would have one of the later models.
I will stay with my Civic Aerodeck for a while yet.

Btw I have a set of unused corner mouldings/ door mouldings left over from the last one, interested?.

Sorry, just realised I am going a bit off thread there.

yeh i heard the big gripe with the first jizz's (i think ill start refering to suzies new car as a jizz and see if she gets angry) was the stiff ride, my gran has a 51 plate bought brand new and she thinks its the best thing since sliced bread. stiff ride doesnt bother me as i prefer it, but i can see some people not liking it.

we have gone WAY WAY off topic havent we!

Kinda like word association :D
