If craters are made by meteors hitting the earth...... where has the meteor gone ? Surely if you've got a big hole in the ground you can only see it once you've taken out the thing that made the hole ? :suspect:
 
When it hits it goes BOOM & blows to bits
 
The energy of the impact vapourises the meteor, all that is left is a dust/coating over the surrounding miles. From what I remember is is visible as a very narrow line in geological samples around the impact sites
