CRAP, I think I've bricked my iPhone

Just plugged it in, and iTunes informed me there were some updates (including one for the phone), so I done the updates, and now the bloody thing don't work :annoyed:

All I'm getting on the screen is the option of making emergency calls (in several languages!), and a picture of the Apple USB lead, and the iTunes icon :shrug:
iTunes is saying basically my sim card is not accepted in the phone.
It bloody was before the update.........

It's an O2 phone, but with a Voda sim. There was an app called Blackra1n which I guess was an unlock thing??
I've tried downloading blackra1n again, but just get an error everytime I run it.

Please tell me I haven't got the most expensive doorstop in the world :'(
 
this happened to mine last week whilst on a call.
I'm still waiting for it to come back from apple, if you touch the info key had had no id numbers aswell.
 
I didn't think you could update the firmware if you jailbroke the iphone ? And if you tried, it would brick itself
 
OK, I'm guessing your iPhone will now have been updated to OS 3.1.3 - that's bad news I'm afraid because on an iPhone 3G that means your baseband will have been upgraded to 05.12.01 - which is not unlockable at present.

With unlocked iPhones it is always advisable to decline software updates so as not to lose your unlock. Obviously that doesn't help you now :(

So basically I'm buggered, until this thingy is released in June :eek:
 
I also read at one point that a jailbroken phone is completely voiding any warranty and apple won't consider fixing any problems. BUT I may be wrong, just something I read a while ago.
 
You can get the official unlock from O2...will probably take 2 weeks ***
 
You could always try restoring to factory default settings... I've used this a couple of times when mine has locked up and I could do nothing with it. If this worked you'd loose your unlock so would only work with an O2 sim card, but maybe better than nothing?

Do you do backups in itunes regularly? If so, you may be able to do the factory reset then restore from a backup that would put it back to how it was, but I'm not sure about this at all... if you did the restore and it never worked all you'd have to do is the same as above all over again...

It can't make it any worse than it is, so worth a try anyway... do you have an O2 sim card you could put in it before restore?

Thanks bud, appreciate the reply.

It's already in restore mode, and tried several times to restore it. BUT, the only option I get in itunes is restore and update, so everytime it restores, it also updates to the new version :bang:

I don't have an O2 sim, but I might try the PAYG option, and pay to have O2 unlock it properly once and for good.

Yep you have updated and removed your 'unlock'. This means that you cannot use a Vodafone SIM card in there anymore.

The Dev team are not planning to release an 'unlock' for this baseband/firmware are there are only so many vulnerabilities that they are saving for the new iPhone.

Sadly I think you are out of luck unless you can get an official unlock from O2?

Or I have a HTC Magic on Vodafone I wouldn't mind trading.
