Hi

I am planning on replacing the CPU on my PC and want to know if it is okay to use Eclipse Cleaning Fluid Bottle and Pec pads to clean off the CPU paste.

Thank you

Expensive way to buy alcohol but yes, no problem.

Thanks. I bought the big bottle and the 50pack of wipes when I had the D80 and don't think I will end up using it all as now have the D90 and try and be careful when changing lens.

Thanks Neil, I used cotton wool and nail polish remover the last time, but though I will try this method to see if I can get it to run a bit cooler.

Thanks, might just go the cheaper option. What gel should I get? Is the cheap one from Maplins okay. It is going to used in. Vostro 200 and the chip is a e6600 core 2 duo using the standard hsf.

If you are going to replace the CPU why not treat it to a CPU cooler too. the stock Intel ones are noisy and not that effective. I'm using a freezer 13 pro which is around £25 and works well but there are plenty to choose from.

I don't know dell machines so it does depend if you have room in the case as a lot of coolers are much larger than the stock one.

Brillo pad? :)

Thanks. Not fused about the noise and I think the standard ones does the job.

A clean lollipop stick and a bit of kitchen roll.

Whilst we're on the subject of CPU's & Coolers etc, is the a free program that will monitor the CPU temp?

Yes.

Oh.. you want to know which one... CoreTemp works for me - as does the CPU meter sidebar gadget (I love sidebar gadgets for monitoring stuff) CPU Meter here: http://addgadgets.com/all_cpu_meter/

Does this look ok?

Download RealTemp and run a Sensor test with In-place large FFTs (you may have to download prime95 too).

Post your results and what processor you have. My i7-2600K gets to about 75deg C. which is fine.

Installed the new cpu, what should the idle and load temp be using core temp.

Thanks

Sorry cpu is E6600 core 2 duo
