CPB, Amazon and why it's not worth it...

Went looking for a new flash, decided on an SB-700 - CPB had it cheapest (by £15) at Amazon. So that's where I bought it from! Turns out that the seller - who will remain unnamed - was selling gray import flashes through Amazon, but claiming them to be UK stock. No warranty cards in the box, so no warranty, and no cashback. Pleased to say that after I returned the flash (sold by muppets, fulfilled by Amazon), Amazon have removed all items by the seller pending investigation, so full marks to them on their customer service. Bought it at Jessops instead!

Don't flashes have an international warranty? No need for warranty cards for a warranty. I've never filled out a card in my life. As warranty is your right by law, not if you fill out a card.

A warranty is not a legal right.

You have statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000., but these do not form a warranty.

Guarantees and warranties are contractual arrangements offered by retailers and manufacturers, separately and in addition to your statutory protections.

Under The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002, there are some provisions for legal enforcement of any warranty that may be offered, but retailers and manufacturers are under no legal obligation to offer any warranty in the first place.

Fair dues. That's what I was on about anyway. Your statutory right normally outweighs any warranty /guarantee anyway. Just because you don't fill out a warranty card doesn't mean a retailer can fob you off if something goes wrong.

No, but as the manufacturer isn't the retailer they can tell you to take a running jump if you don't comply with their terms for their warranty as they have no obligation under statutory rights.

After 6 months I know I would prefer to deal with Canon in terms of their warranty rather than CheapPricesRUs in terms of SoGA. I know which is easier...
