Cover Versions - share your favourites

Gloria Jones - Tainted love - Champion Records - …:

Truly awful

Anti Nowhere League 'So What' covered by Metallica

Not for those easily offended.

Oh.. and don't laugh... but...

Cover versions are, in my opinion, pathetic attempts at trying to ride on the back of great songs except for Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower'. It is brilliant.

And your point in telling the people on this thread your feelings about Pathetic Attemps riding on thd backs of others?

You are talking to a thread of forum members who have shared their favourite pathetic attempts then?

Thank you for your diversity..... Pavarotti sang Nessum Dorma (None shall sleep). As he was not the first to sing it, by your thinking the MAESTRO was merely riding on the backs of others?

Well thank you, how I have misjudged him....... time for a whisky and a lie down....

I can't quite agree fully with you there, whilst there are a lot of guff covers, there are also many covers that have been considered superior to the originals.

Kind of agree, there are not too many covers that I actually think are better,
but I have posted some that I believe are :)

Kasabian - Sesame St / Good Vibrations

So there I was, listening to Aretha, when it occurred to me that this is a cover version. Thought about this thread and started wondering what we mean by a cover version.

Is it not just another interpretation of a song written by someone else?

This was originally sung by Dionne Warwick, but was written by David and Bacharach. So is this a cover of a cover......I'm thinking too much, but d'ya know what I mean?

Oh, and this gives me goose-bumps every time.

Don't really like the beatles but this is an interesting cover (of sorts) ...

and in a similar vein - old "Slow Hand" ...

Lynyrd Skynyrd covering a JJ Cale song. I hadn't heard of Cale before buying this album and seeing Skynyrd play it live in '74. Been a fan since.
