Hey! Hope ive put this in the right place.

I recently purchased a Canon 1000D, and would like to do a course somewhere as I have no idea what Im doing. :bang:
Are there any courses that you could reccomend?
I want to cover it all obviously and am having trouble finding a good course.

thanks xxx

You should try your local college for courses. They will be starting new courses this month so get in quick.

Hi Lucy

Where abouts in the country are you?

Get yourself along to Experience Seminars and their "Understanding Your EOS 1000D" 1 day course

i did an experience seminar and found them very expensive for what they are and there arnt that mant instructors for the number of people they have on the courses.

Mine was an out and about one though rather than camera specific.

I went on an EOS day at this place earlier in the year which I found helped me get a better understanding of my camera. It isn't particularly indepth but covered enough so I could move out of the auto settings and into TV, AP and M.

I have also registered on an evening photography course with my local Adult Continuing Education centre. The course covers:

The modes – introduction to the course and how to adjust the camera
Cameras – history about them, the basics, aperatures, shutter speeds, film speeds and technical stuff.
Places – how to photograph your home environment
Faces – How to photograph yourself, each other
Lighting – Window light, flash on camera, external flash, refelectors and household lighting
Things – Table top and still life set ups (they set up examples in the centre for practice)
Photography after dark – what to do when the lights go out
Mounting and presentation – you take existing work and they will demonstrate how to crop, matte and mount it to produce exhibition pictures, joiners and mosaics

Some of the things may be a little basic for me but I think that overall it will be very beneficial. The course runs one evening a week for 6 weeks and at £48 I thought it was pretty reasonable. I start on 3rd November and am really looking forward to it.

Maybe you could see if there is something like that near you?

I have heard mixed reports about the OU course you have mentioned. Some people have said that it is very porly organised wheras others have said they found it helpful – there was quite a long thread about it on the PhotoAnswers forum.

:) thanks for that!

I have been looking for local evening courses and just cant seem to find one that will teach me what i want to know. i basically need to know it all.
that course your doing sounds ideal. maybe i will keep looking around then see if i can find something like that. but i will check that website too! thanks again xxx

sidcup in kent so can go dartford, anywhere around that area really..if u know it?

Try your local colleges - see if any teach City and Guilds level 1 photography at night school. Ten week course.

I kind of know the area as I have family in Kent/East Sussex but more down towards the coast way.

How easy it is for you to get to Bexley they have a few different courses on there in the evenings that might be worth looking in to

Or there are these as well in Dartford

It all depends how long you want to commit for and what you want to get out of a course. My intention is to hopefully to the City and Guilds once I have done the course I am doing, I'm using this initial one as a taster to doing some more later on.

thanks for your help, i will get looking into some more courses and hopefully find one xx

I'm no expert but I've done this course. Covers all the basics of aperture, shutter, ISO and I enjoyed it. You get a copy of Elements 6 (may be 7 now) and learn the basics of that as well.

 wicked thanks, wanted 2 know if if covered it all
cheers
x
