Courses in Preston area help

Hi Cas, I'm near Manchester so not a million miles from Preston. Could you give us a little more detail on what kind of course you would want to go on?

I know of several really good (albeit expensive at times) one, two and four day courses in the area. Some specialise in landscape, some in wedding and one in outdoor portaiture.

There are also some courses that you can do online that are more generic.

What would you like to learn?

You might like to look at the Open University course then. It's T189 in the prospectus. It's twelve weeks long and it covers lens selection, the use of colour, composition, the theory behind digital with sensor contruction and size. It covers all the things you really need to know like ISO, shutter speeds, apertures and their relationship to depth of field. The other major bonus is that it also covers a fair bit of the basics in photoshop like how to use layers and it does that by using tutorials on DVD so you can replay them as often as you need.

I decided to do it last year as I was a convert to DSLR and wanted to go over all the basics again and learn a bit about photoshop too. I knew a fair bit of the content already, coming from film but I certainly don't regret doing it. :)

Like Dave I have not been on the course at Runshaw

What about this one http://www.runshaw.ac.uk/groups/adult marketing/ADULT/courses/TCFP03.pdf

'This course is designed for those who have found a new interest in photography through the use of digital cameras and have invested (or want to invest) in a digital SLR. It has 2 purposes, first of all to develop your skills in setting up and taking the photographs to get great pictures in the first place, then in processing the pictures once taken using the industry-standard Adobe Photoshop software system'
