Couple of Lens Questions

fixed length lenses

something like a 300mm F2.8 for Nikon for instance

how hard are fixed length lenses to get used to? for motorsport photography? and are they worth it? more or sa curiosity thing more than anything

Makro lenses

if i was to buy say a 70-200mm makro lens would it be "good" for motorsport photography? and what would the diference would it be to a normal 70-200mm?

I still use film cameras and I use Prime lenses a lot and I have an old manual focus 300mm f2.8 that I use at Oulton Park.

They are heavy so you need to use a monopod or sturdy tripod else you will just get too much camera shake. They take a little getting used to but the trick is to focus on one spot (or follow focus if you have AF) and learn to pan.

As for the 70-200mm Macro. If it is the one I think you are refering to then no it would not make a good lens for sport as it is a specialised Macro lens with a max aperature of only F4.

If you want a better one then look at the 80-200mm f2.8 which is said to be one of the sharpest lenses Nikon have made. Plus haveing the larger apearture give you mave scope when the light goes bad.

If you mean the old style 70-210mm f4-5.6 then yes you can but make sure you crank the ISO of the digi camera up or buy fast film say 400 ISO one.

was just thinking of a makro lens in general really and wondered if they would make a difference

thanks for the input though, just got the sigma 100-300 F4 to keep me happy
