Currently running an ancient Dell Desktop (Windows XP) as the 'family' PC but I want to pop out later and pick up a new one from PC world.

I have a couple of dumb questions.

Q1 - I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 installed on the PC I'm replacing. It was the free full download. I've copied all the programme files onto my external hard drive. If I go and get a new Windows 8 PC can I simply copy the files back onto the new PC's C drive and carry on using as normal or would the move to Windows 8 be an issue ?

Q2 - The PC is just going to be used for web surfing, watching things like SKY and Netflix etc and also photo editing. I'm not really wanting to go over £500 - would something like this be adequate ?

any others here worth a look ?

Thanks in Advance

1 - no you will need the original installer file(s) or disk for any applications you want to install on the new machines
2 - are you 100% wanting to get one today? there are much better deals out there.

Thanks Neil

How would I go about getting my CS2 onto the new machine then ?

I just figured everything I'd need would be on the old PC.

youll need the file you downloaded from adobe for CS2, and/or the original CD/DVDs for other software you want to install.

you cant just copy a program from the "program files" folder from one machine to the other, it sticks a load of stuff in the background of the OS.

Ah thanks Neil

This is what's on the old PC. I wonder if there is still the free dowload available anywhere.

It's the .exe file

starts to run the instalation wizard thingymebob.

Yes CS2 installer.

I've copied it over to my external hard drive.

I'll leave it there for now and then see what's what as and when I get new PC sorted out.

I may just bite the bullet and look at getting something to replace CS2 but the adobe family is so confusing now.

seems a mixed bag:

although remember CS2 is 32bit so even if your new machine has all the memory in the world CS2 will only use a fraction and will still be much slower than its 64bit versions (CS4 and above) on the same system.

e.g:

on this test - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18342923

CS3 (32bit) took 3 mins 30 seconds
CS4 (64bit) took 23 seconds

Thats:

*CPU*
i7 2600K 4.4GHz

*RAM & PS ALLOCATION*
16GB DDR3 1600MHz
CS3 usage maxes out at 3255mb

*INSTALL DISK*
OCZ Vertex 60Gb SSD

*SCRATCH DISK*
As above

CS2 will install and run as a 32-bit program on Win 8.1 64-bit.
