Ok, so as usually I am ona quest to try to take at least one perfect shot. Plus try to find something that I am good at photographing.

At the end of the week (fingers crossed the weather is good), I am due to attend our local caounty show (Kent County Show in Detling), and I was wondering if anyone could share a few tips on trying to help me get the shots I can at the moment only dream of.

What sort of lens are going to suit me best to take?
Best apatures and speeds to shot with?
Subject matter?

I love photographing animals, but am not very good so I am trying to look for other subjects to try my hand at. Want to give motor photography a go and I know they usually have a classic/old car show/display going on.

But anything that will help out a not very talented amature would be most greatfully welcomed.

Hmm I went to my first country show last week. Subject matter...well depends on what your interested in. Could be the animals, the competitions, the people, life and styles, little details... lots of things at these shows.

Lenses...well what have you got? I like to use something wide and get in close but still be able to zoom in when I need to. 18-55mm kit lens would be good tbh.

SS and aperture really depend on the conditions and how you want the photo to look. Im guessing you already know about changing settings and what they do so just experiment on the day. If you have a flash, take it with you.

Dont know if any of that is going to help or even make sense, I've had no sleep!

Lens wise I own:
18-55mm
28-80mm
80-200mm
170-500mm

I do own a flash but to be honest it just sits in the bag as I have no ida how on earth to use it correctly.

Id be tempted to take these three.

18-55mm maybe for inside marques if there is any, to get all the bustling people in ect
28-80mm for walk around lens, asking for peoples portraits, or snapping people not looking and general things there.
80-200mm to sit at the side and get shots of any racing or events that might be going on.

As for the flash, take it just incase. Have a play with it before you go and get an idea of how things work. Just stick it on TTL on the day if you do use it.

To be honest these kind of events are the wrong place to get that perfect shot. Whilst there might be plenty of classic cars etc they'll also be surrounded by people, barriers, other cars, rubbish, etc. Unless they're going to be doing some kind of display and driving about or you can get in before the public do you'll struggle to find a "clean" shot.

Instead try some abstract detail shots, candids of the owners talking to people which show their passion about the cars, stuff like that. Or approach the owners and ask if they'd be interested in meeting up somewhere sometime to get some shots in better surroundings.
