Edit My Images
No
Hi all

I enjoyed seeing the programme this evening with the finalists being shown.

Now when they got to the one called Flutter By I was puzzled bearing in mind that do not permit significant PP'ing and this one looked like a composite 'sequence' to me of the same butterfly landed on the flower

It is August on this page

If not a composite that is one heck of triple flightpath???

It's almost certainly a comp but I wouldn't worry about it; I doubt whether they've got permission for the two images shot in Bushy Park either!

It was my impression that their due diligence would cover such matters......... apparently not :(

PS which ones in Bushy Park??? Though place taken is not prohibited editing ;)

Edit ~ doh! now I see the locations on the linked page I posted :coat: hmmmm! though are you prohibited from commercial use of wildlife pictures taken in the Royal Parks???

You're prohibited from any commercial use within the royal parks unless you've had permission (& paid the fee) although I've no idea how it would work in this case

I think it is a better mix this year. Deer or red squirrel for me.
It is nice to see at least one insect image.

Ummmm! even if it breaks the rules?

PS I am not saying Flutter By is not a nice image......just that it is not abiding by the competition rules & that the judging criteria as such is flawed.

If you feel it breaks the rules and bothers you that much then report it.

I've seen flocks of butterflies all after the same thing so not necessarily a composite - but could be. As for the Bushy Park shots, would shooting for a competition be for commercial use?

I take it that those raising their concerns about the shots in question have raised the concerns with the competition organizers as well as bitching about them here?

Editorial use requires a permit as well (and it's certainly that).

Why haven't you PM'd me about your concerns regarding my opinion before bitching in public?

Thank you for the clarification re. the editorial use.

No need for a PM since the comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.

Both comments were questions directed at the membership in general.

Could have been an in camera HDR shot on a tripod. Unlikely, but possible.

If you are refering to the technique of taking three or more frames in rapid succession then combining them in and HDR processing....................that is still multiple/composite images!

PS if that HDR method is used on a landscape to improve the DR then the contributor may just away with it but if in this case it is creates IMO a flight sequence, that is beyond the bounds.

PPS and yes I have asked for clarification from the organisers both directly (using their contact email address) and indirectly via FB ;) Whether 'they' will answer and address my concern remains to be seen??? In the past the Beeb had a few issues in regard to 'competitions' but did get their act together. Have they slipped, I have no idea but for clarity I would welcome their statement on the matter!

I also thought the images they chose were not the best we saw in the programme considering the title "Call of the Wild". Best one for me (out of final 12) was were the two owls.

It's always been like this. They have have a good number of fluffy animal pics., helps sales I suppose.

Not overly keen on the winning photo but the fact that it was taken by a Care Worker on "my cheap camera", with a borrowed lens makes it okay with me. :)

+1 to this but his photographic friend needs to guide him a little with his long lens holding technique, he was holding it like a compact camera.......but well done on his viewers 'popular vote' win :)

which one won, missed watching it tonite
