I am in the market for a new D4 and decided to give the local branch of Calumet in Belfast a chance to price for trading in my D3s and a 28-300 VR lens and 105micro/2.8 against a new D4.Trade in values in England for the camera have ranged from £2000 to £2600 and both lenses from £350 to £400. Well I couldn't believe my ears when they offered me £1100 for the D3s (1 year old with 3200 shutter actuations) and £180 for each of the lenses. I explained to the shop assistant that I couldn'g believe what I was hearing and was this a genuine attempt at honest pricing or a chance to make a killing. How do they expect to pick up business for the local economy with madness like this. Has anyone else experienced this with Calumet?merv:bang:

Most suppliers will give a bare minimum but that truly is appalling ... private sale is definitely the way to go.

That is a crazy offer but at the end of the day they can offer what they want. Pretty sure that you won't be buying from Calumet in the future.
Interested in knowing why you want to update your D3S to a D4 if you have only had it for a year and put 3200 actuations through it?

To be honest I've got a few good deals price wise for brand new Nikon lenses. They however lacked any real attempt to make me happy any of the times when asking for anything to sweeten the deal. Them prices are absolutely insane. Not a good sign for calumet!

Also if the idiot behind the counter had any sense he would have sympathised and agreed that price is nuts and say he would love to give you more but it's the bigwigs that make the call and encouraged you to buy the D4 from them or something other than making you embarrassed by the joke of a deal you got offered

Just as a matter of interest Merv who were you dealing with in Calumet.

Everyones gotta make money there just trying to make more then everyone else it would be the same if you bought a car into a dealer that was only a year old.

Very true, but if its one thing I learnt in economics and supermarkets have reflected is that its more profitable in the long term to sell more earning less per unit than it is to get more profit from a single item, what Camulet have inadvertently done here is not only not get the sale, but put others off too.
