Just saw this video on the BBC site.

Its only about three and half minutes about how we are going to have difficulty producing meat for an increasing world population, and also that a reduction in meat consumption probably would help our health a bit.

Could you give up meat for a day, more than a day, longer, altogether?

Dave

Day, week, month....No problem.
Gave it up for 7 years once. Just went right off it....no moral or health reasoning.
I eat it now (more chicken & fish than red meat), but can very much take it or leave it.

I have done occasionally (travelling in India for example) and ate veggie curry on Saturday night out of courtesy for our hostess, but have no desire to normally. And veggie food causes huge amounts of flatus, so worsening the greenhouse gas problem (and making one leave parties early! :p ).

Some days i think about it too much and don't like eating anythign that had a pulse or a face ... then other days i dont care... I really don't like biting into big chunks of meat but not so much a problem with thinner slices... concience kicks in with chunks for some reason..

never forget the look on my sons face as he stood in total shock one day.... "what?", "they kill pigs to get bacon ???"

I'd be quite comfy slaughtering and butchering animals for eating, and we were always careful to emphasise to our children that meat came from the various kinds of animals they saw around them in the country. It's not fair to pretend it's just another product that's made in factories, with no sense of responsibility for the animals involved in the process.

Anyone who says they cant lacks some severe willpower. Ofcourse anyone can, whether they want to is very different.

I don't think about it too much, I each what I fancy eating. Sometimes that includes fish, meat and sometimes it doesn't. No big deal really.

A day - easy. There are days when I don't eat it anyway.
A few days, probably.

This^

Of course, but why on earth should I?

Can and regularly do. I do the cooking in the house so can choose what we eat, but since my wife is a vegetarian and I'm lazy, I just cook veggie meals at home.

I haven't cooked any meat (other than sausages) in over 5 years so I'd probably make a pig's ear of it (pun intended) anyway.

Not eating meat at home has also changed the way I eat out. I am far more likely to order the vegetarian option. I'm also acutely aware of how bad many chefs are at offering imaginative animal-free dishes. I mean, really, really bad - and that includes several well-known Michelin-starred TV chefs who can't offer anything better than a reheated frozen mushroom risotto.

Snigger.....

I could pretty easily give up eating everything for a day. It's another nonsense "story" from the BBC.

BTW there's a pretty "challenging" video doing the rounds on Failbook ATM. I won't post it here because it's pretty graphic (though, basically, it's just modern farming). It's actually especially uncomfortable viewing for veggies as it points out some of the awkwardness of not eating meat but continuing to eat eggs and milk.

I don't do facebook, but if it's the 60 second one put out by PETA, it's vile, but it's just more of their propaganda.

Don't think it was Peta. It runs for about 5 mins.

Propaganda is an interesting word.

Not the same one then. This one was only one minute (y)

I think I could give up meat for a day no problem, especially so as I don't eat it everyday anyway

Same as Keith we don't have meat every day and I actually prefer a nice bit of fish especially smoked haddock :D

I don't eat meat every day either. Pasta with a tomato sauce, salads with cheese...
Probably every third day for meat.

There are a few days when I don't have meat.

When I was a youngster used to have to go to the farm for Chicken and wait for the farmer or his wife to kill it, so never had a problem eating meat. I have even shot game birds and eaten them.

So the answer is no I have to have meat.

I like a steak as much as anyone, but I reckon that I now have two or three meat free days per week. If the food is spiced enough then it is enjoyable. I made a veggie chilli con carne last week, using peppers, carrots, tomatoes and subsituted beans for meat (yes, it was a bit windy), using scotch bonnet peppers, paprika and chilli powder.

"Feel the burn" :D

Longest I went without meat for was about three months, did not really miss it. I only did it for health reasons, cut out meat sugar fat alcohol etc etc. Three months later, only eating veg pulses and drinking plenty of water, went to doctors for verdict. Doctor said not much change in my levels, so I said sod that.

My missus was very happy I packed in the veg and pulses diet, she said I never stopped farting  :$

Yep, regularily do and i love meat.

I love meat and sometimes won't eat it for a few days. It all depends what I cook for dinner. I also cook a lot of fish as well though inbetween white or red meat dishes.
