Could well be doing my first trackday very soon!

how slow? like being fixed on his drive slow
 
to be honest i think its a bit silly doing it in a stock corsa that you are having trouble with all this time, you will get around 2-3 laps and think i'll give it some beans, well you need to give it some beans to get the speed out of it. How long have you been passed your test and driving? you will have cars that are much quicker constantly overtaking you and you will probably just get in the way. Its just my 2p and entirely upto you.
 
If you've got any cash, change brake fluid to Dot 5.1 or Castrol Super Response DoT 4 and look at a set of EBC Green stuff or Yellow stuff pads.

Standard pads and standard fluid won't stand up to track use for very long.

i thought id met matt sayles corsa last sunday...., i was aproaching a junction slowly when a corsa came understeering round the corner into the lane infront of me, i came to a stop while he ground the gears, reversed, didnt apologise or even acknowledge me and wheelspan off up the road, he already had 3 different colours on his corsa bodywork and was probably on his way to adding a few others in the near future. stupidly i missed getting the numberplate to report him.

they'll only have to last the roll down to cascades with bits of leg hanging out of bed anyway, no point wasting money on the brakes, save it for the RAC membership fee :):clap:
 
Has said corsa got some kidn of suspention upgrade aswell?

it will be awful around corners at standard ride height

as suggested though, change the brake fluid as standard stuff wont last long
 
At the end of the day i think its a good thing matt is doing the track day.

If more people did this rather than bomb about on public roads there would be less deaths on the roads.

i say go have fun and rag the crap out of that little car.

my corsa failed its MOT and i had a week before it went away for scrap.
safe to say i drove it like a nutter. ragged it around the local industrial estate at 1 in the morning with 3 of my mates, stuck some mcdonalds trays on the rear tyres and did donuts in homebase carpark, bombed it around my friend's field, handbrake turned in an empty tesco carpark.

brilliant fun, i just wish i could have gone on a trackday.

Not necessarily, some Billy Nobhead might go to one of these trackdays - he'll throw his car round the track like hes Schumacher, then he'll drive home thinking he's Schumacher.

Of course like you said, it might take the need to speed on public roads out of some people - but in others it will only increase the desire to go faster.

Stupid people will always do stupid things.

See death/killing glorified in a satirical film - go out and do it.
Shoot cars on a motorway from a hill with a sniper rifle - go out and do it.
Listen to death metal and talk about killing hookers - go and do it.
See someone going down a hill in a shopping trolley on TV - go and do it.

Just pray that they don't hurt someone else in the process.
I think that matt is level headed enough to know that this trackday is to be taken seriously, that his corsa isn't a ferrari f40, and that driving on the roads is dangerous if you're in the wrong frame of mind.

But people put such a downer on it!
 
Trackdays are great fun, if you remember your limitations of your car, standard brakes will get very warm, as will standard brake fluid. Will be worth taking some spare brake fluid with you along with coolent, check levels both before the session and drive home. Something alot of people dont take into account is the brakes temps just after a thrash, dont sit with the brakes applied try and find a flat area to let the car idle and cool off with the brakes off, as the heat within the standard pads will easily warp the disk if you leave the applied while cooling down, leaving the car potentailly danagerios to drive home.

Just keep your eyes peeled while on track i always indicated to the faster cars that i had seen them before moving of the raceline to let them past, but i had a modded car, id rather do a track driving course with proper instrution for a first time yourl learn so much more. But most important thing is to have fun on the track.

i think youll find your car was illegal to use on the road as soon as it failed the MOT, even if it wasnt up yet. Mainly because it isnt safe enough to be on the road...

You have to be o so careful now over doing things like that. On the FDUK forums (think it was there) a while back we had a few younger drivers complaining that there were being sent to court for dangerous driving having been stopped by the police while doing doughnuts in an empty Tescos carpark. One of the guys actually lost his license as a result, and that was in a road legal car.

These days the police have the power to stop you on private land as well.

That's strange, the guys in the garage (respectable guys, too, not yobs) said that the car is fine to drive on the road until the previous year's MOT was up.

Yeah the only reason I did it was because my car was duff. I wouldn't dream of doing it again. Just one of those things you gotta do once in your life sort of thing :p

If the police have the power to stop you on private land surely they can go to a destruction derby and take their licenses away from the people driving for 'dangerous driving' :thinking:
 
i see where they are coming from, since the coppers wouldnt be able to see it isnt roadworthy;)

If their car was fitted with a link to the PNC, that would tell them that the car was an MOT failure. Doncha LOVE sharing of information between govt. departments in this digital age?

i did 3 tracks in my old saxo (5 door 1.5 diesel!!!) Croft twice, and the nurburgring.

main thing is, move over for faster people (everyone) keep to your lines in the corners, and enjoy yourself :D

Anyway, Whitwash. It wasnt me (well, not me driving) as was in corwall :lol: I would never drive like that on public roads. Just not worth it.

The car should stand up to it. It is 20 minute sessions at a time and then a 40 minute cool down so it should be OK.

I know it could ruin the car but it would be my own fault and I would have learned the hard way. You only live once so, sod it! You never know etc.

If I crash, I crash it, I pay for it, I only have myslef to blame. End of. I will just keep my eyes on the mirrors and not push myslef to far.
